Dashcam Recommendations

Looking for a good dashcam for my car. What are you guys using? Looking for something that records forward views. Don't necessarily need one that records rearview and don't need one that records the cabin.

Any recommendations? Any models to stay away from?

I recently got a few nexar beam cameras. East to install and use. Everything automatically shows up on my phone and if you brake hard or get hit it automatically sends you a 30 sec clip. Hopefully I never use that feature though. Took my kids out for their first time muding and off-roading and the videos from it were great. After you do some research and decide, if this ones what you want I have an extra as well, new never used.

Hardwired garmin 66W (wide), so you can benefit from the parking monitoring mode. Amazing cam. It has a travel lapse mode that’s pretty cool to record trips! Going to hardwire and 40 or 56 in the back to sync with the front. The garmin app on the phone makes it super easy to sync front and back recordings together. The app also makes it super easy to manage content on your camera without having to remove your cards. The bad reviews of the app are old. I’ve been using the app for almost a year now and it works just fine wirelessly via the cameras internal WiFi. The only thing I would recommend is if you need to pull LARGE files JUST use the provided USB cables. If you’re in no rush, though, transferring recordings to your phone via WiFi isn’t bad at all. It also records coords and gps speed by default

I have some examples of the travelapse from my camera on my Instagram @jusimplicit

Toyota makes a dash cam for the 4Runner. Easy wiring into the rear view mirror: https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota__4...K6A333HT1.html

I have this replacement mirror + dashcam Amazon.com: VanTop H610 10" 2.5K Mirror Dash Cam for Cars with Full Touch Screen, Waterproof Backup Camera Rear View Mirror Camera, Enhanced Night Vision with Sony Starvis Sensor, Parking Assistance

It works a treat. I bought a throwaway mirror and took the stalk off of it so it fully replaced my mirror instead of just attaching over it. Records front and back.

I have a KENWOOD in my car front and rear cameras
Funny thing I got rear ended, other drivers insurance was being evasive if they were going to pay 30 second clip of accident and check was in the mail
Camera and install from beach auto sound in Huntington Beach was $450,

I have the garmin mini, i went with the smallest one i could find, i forget its even there because the rearview mirror hides it completely, quality is great as well, but whatever dash cam you go with i would recommend you get the dongar technology rear view mirror adapter if you have an auto dimming rearview mirror, no having to route cables its amazing.

I’m not being funny or snarky, but if you watch YouTube “dashcam compilations” and usually dash cams will put their brand/model at the bottom of the video.

This is how I plan on shopping for one. Some are just “omg what is that?!!!”

That's not a bad idea, but many cameras, mine included, have the option to remove the free advertising from the video clips.

I use a Viofo A119 V3 in my 4runner. Fantastic resolution and has a parking mode option if you use their hardwire cable.

Overhead consoles (which many vehicles have today) give a good source of switched 12V power.

If you plan on doing it yourself, 3M has a ScotchLok quick tap product that makes it easy to splice into existing wiring without cutting it:

Bro don’t buy that “OEM” dash cam. That’s straight up scamming you out of your money. I’m a big proponent of using OEM parts but god damn the profit margin on that crap is REDONCULOUS! Hardwiring is super easy and don’t let it affect your decision. You’ll want to hardwire any camera you get either way to gain full benefit of features

Right, but for parking mode you need both switched and constant 12v, as that's what triggers the recording mode from regular to "parking." In addition, the Viofo (and many other manufacturers') hardwired adapter has a low voltage trigger that will turn off the camera to preserve the battery's ability to start the car should the voltage decrease beyond a settable threshold.
