What is the highest weight you have towed with your 5th Gen, and how did that go?

Don’t have anything to tow, but would love to hear stories.

I bought 1900sqft of 3/4” hardwood floors. I thought I would be smart and save the $475 in delivery fees. I was already spending $14,000 so why not save $475?

I was told I was expecting to haul 2850lbs. I brought a dual axle Uhaul trailer that had an empty weight of 1700lbs.

I show up and look at the two over sized pallet. Each box of hardwood flooring weighed 65lbs. I did a quick math and it was 5700lbs. The trailer weighed 1700lbs. I had a 40mile drive.

7400lbs… Not good. Luckily or unluckily I got stuck in stop and go traffic that was inching along at 30mph.

The 4Runner braking wise seemed ok. The uhaul had surge brakes. I wasn’t decending a mountain pass. But any acceleration was slow and I was gingering the throttle a bit. I also made sure to keep it out of 5th gear.

I think I should have just spent the extra $475 for delivery.

I once took my mother-in-law to the store. Does that count? What is the highest weight you have towed with your 5th Gen, and how did that go?What is the highest weight you have towed with your 5th Gen, and how did that go?

I had this bright idea to install drainage, irrigation, and sod in one weekend. I worked in Savannah at the time and live in Charleston.

So I got a mini excavator (1907 lbs), skidsteer (6148 lbs), trencher attachment (955 lbs), landscape rake (1109 lbs), and an auger attachment (231 lbs). Sunbelt loaded everything onto an 18' double axle drop trailer (2393 lbs) with surge brakes. 12,743 lbs total. I pulled that bad boy from Savannah to Charleston.

Luckily there was no sway and the drive is relatively flat, and it's been almost 100k miles since, so the tranny held up. In hindsight, what an idiot, and I'll never do it again. I consider myself lucky that Sunbelt had balanced the trailer almost perfectly.

Not sure what the load weighed, but I hauled a huge load of flat wood in a 5x10 trailer w the tailgate removed. It was only a 5 mile drive but it was so heavy the trailer tires wearer unevenly, in 5 miles.

Won’t do that again.

Yeah, that will probably take the cake. I am honestly amazed that Sunbelt let you pull that; I'm sure it was obvious you were way underequipped.

Ya. When I tried to rent a mini excavator they said no to me with my 4Runner. Isn’t the mini excavator much heavier than the skid steer?

I ended up with a skid steer with a trenching attachment as well as a bucket since they wouldn’t let me leave with even just a mini excavator by itself.
