Hit and Run advice
Hey gents,
So I own a 2020 TRD pro lunar rock.
Of course, my fear of hit and run has happened.
Is the part that is scratched separate from the bumper?
Or am I looking at a full front bumper repaint?
Thanks

Hi there- sorry to hear about this incident. hit and runs suck, I was hit and run in my wife's rx350 in the rear about 3 years ago so I 100% feel your frustration
it looks like the damage is only to the plastic bumper, the body panel looks fine. on my 2012, the part that is scratched is part of the entire bumper cover
honestly, I wouldn't bother repainting. if you wanted to fix it and make it look brand new, just replace the entire bumper cover. painting and filling or sanding the gashes will not beat a new cover painted from factory. you could probably claim a new cover on insurance as well if you really wanted to

Woohoo! Perfect excuse for the wife to let you replace the whole damn bumper with after market! The next time someone wants to hit and run you they’ll be the ones in the hurt locker
Also get dash cams front and back! The idea of accountability within the gen pop is far and few now a days

Thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.
Have a call into the Toyota GM now... think I’m just ordering brand new.

Bro, you read my mind. I was just going to order this bumper, and just cut the damage off... but missed it by a few inches.
As for gen pop, I’m 36 and can’t stand anyone under 25.

actually Bry n makes a REALLY good point lol
I was rear ended like 6 years ago (in my wife's RX again...) while stopped at a stop light by some 18 year old on his phone (seriously). I had him replace the entire rear bumper cover out of pocket with a brand new factory painted one. the damage was about the same as yours but on the corner and the lexus dealer said they could repaint it or replace it and cautioned repaint would be noticeable even if done really well. it's just not the same as factory. I said replace it with brand new and was happy I did. cost about $1600 Canadian $

i have almost the exact same damage from someone hitting me, if it helps I got multiple quotes from $1,500-$2,000 to repair (I'm in Raleigh, NC so adjust the pricing for your market).
I'm not fixing mine though, using that money instead for offroading gear

Thanks for the input guys.
So unfortunately I just got off the line with the GM of the dealership, and the GM of their collision center.
They are telling me Toyota does not sell pre-painted parts...

Maybe it wouldn’t be too difficult for a pro to do a spot repair?

Nobody sells pre-painted OEM crash repair parts. The inventory carrying cost of all that inventory (same bumper cover, many different colors) would be cost prohibitive. A good paint and body shop can do wonders with either a repair of your current bumper cover or a brand new one.

Any reputable body shop will pull that bumper cover off, then repair and shoot the whole thing. It's both easier to do and leads to a much better repair.

If it makes you feel any better it really doesn’t look that bad… id be inclined to leave it alone if this was my truck. In all seriousness I would have probably did worse to myself off-road sooner or later.
I do like the idea of getting a metal bumper, like the high clearance option that you put a photo of earlier looks pretty clean.
Having proper armor is pretty great… I’ve been in my truck before when a person opened their car door into my sliders. Rather entertaining.

Just me, but I had more than that the 2nd day I owned the 4runner.
There is going to be scars unless you leave it covered in the garage and never drive it (I have a limited run motorcycle like that, but I still ride it occasionally).
I put the first scrapes and dings in my 4runner driving it as it was intended. On my terms, not some idiot in a parking lot.

Too bad the cut-off bumper you wanted is missing this damaged area.
I would get a specialist to do a spot repair.
Oh and I am pretty sure all Lunar Rock TRD Pros are MY2021 even when build in 2020.

Guy owns a TRD Pro and is worried about shopping cart rash? Well we know this TRD Pro is all show and never leaves the pavement.
