Man I forgot how a stock exhaust sounded like from the inside. You would hate driving my 4Runner if that drives you nuts. My truck has had an aftermarket exhaust since the beginning if my wife complained I’d tell her to kick rocks and drive her hybrid. We can meet at our destination. Luckily she likes loud trucks!

Your main fuse box is under the hood driver side. Open it up and find the flux capacitor. It has an adjustment screw, turn it to the left very slowly and you should notice a reduction in noise. Be sure to use a left handed screwdriver.

Why you ask..... because my T4R always wants to exceed 88mph.

I don't hear that noise while in or outside of mine.

Of course I've been shooting firearms for 50+ years.... so there's that!

Your like me, although you have about 3 years on me. My high frequencies are shot, no pun intended. I have been shooting high power for 46 years. My first firearm was an AR15 at 18 for $249 in California. Paid and walked the same day. Times have really changed here.

Paid attention next time I started mine and yes while it does sound similar that noise isn’t even half as loud. Maybe 1/4. Sounds like a normal V6 with a factory exhaust.

Sounds similar to a Chevy Volt with a bearing failure.

Yeah, unfortunately. It was nice growing up here in the 60’s and 70’s and even the 80’s were good. But, since the 21st century it just keeps getting worse.

Audio recordings don't always capture the noise you are hearing and noises in a brand new vehicle can and will make you certifiably crazy. I went after two 2 squeaks/ rattles the first year I bought new. I was miserable until they were fixed.

Go to dealer and ask to start up a few other new 4Runners on their lot and see what you hear.

Thanks.
Mine has sounded like this since I’ve had it. Got it at 7k miles. Not sure if this link will work... the video does sound different to me than the actual truck.

OP, are you talking about the whooshing air noise when you rev up?

That's your radiator fan. Otherwise, if there's a blowing kinda noise on a cold start that goes away after a few seconds, that's your aux air pump. Helps heat up the emission system faster.

I have 2021 with 6000 miles and it makes that same background drone noise you are hearing. Almost sounds like something in the dash is loose and vibrating against something. Now that I hear yours, I feel a lot better about it being normal.

I should also mention that I only hear it at idle. When I rev the motor it goes away. Just like your’s sounds.
