Let's talk winches.
So I am looking for a winch, I don't want to spend a lot and came across Engo. I don't think I would need anything over 10k and since I just ordered a SSO front bumper what else can make it better. So my question is is the SR model good I guess it's the new model. I have synthetic rope from a old winch I had just sitting in the garage that I can use so I plan on just trying to find the cheapest Engo 10K I can find with steel cable and swap it out. What do you think?

What do I think? If you’re going to actually use your winch I would buy the best option you can afford. The last thing you want is a malfunctioning or poorly performing winch in a situation where you really need it.
If it’s just for Instagram then yes your original plan makes sense.

Most of the wenches I have met have been loud mouthed and unpleasant to be around. I prefer not to talk about them or associate with them.

Well, are there any good options under 1k. I wouldn't mind a Warn but they all seem to be over 1k.

Smittybilt X20 12000 lb on Amazon is about $700.
I have one set up on a Victory 4X4 stealth bumper and it works flawlessly.
with the synthetic rope and the aluminum bumper mount, the whole thing weighs about 95 pounds.
1 vote for Smittybilt.

I am surprised no one likes Engo, I always thought of them as being a good brand after the 4x4 magazine did the test and it won and yes that was years ago.

I know I can even go up to the 12k with steel line and be under 700 bucks, and it's part of the master race of winches. Or this one.

Thanks I will get the Warn, I feel the same way, if the wife gets a Jeep we can go with something else knowing there is Warn somewhere.

If you really want old reliable, go with a Warn M8000 and put a synthetic rope on it. You can get nice ropes from somewhere like Custom Splice for a good price. The newer Warn VR Evo line seems pretty great too, but it is their "budget" made in China line. Not taking anything away from it and I'd still trust it over all the other made in china brands. You're still getting Warn quality.
If price is a bigger factor and you want that extra pull and line speed the Smitty X20 line is pretty great for the price. I had one of them on my old Jeep and never had an issue with it. Very fast, wireless remote, etc.

I am happy with my Engo
Pros:
Price - I got mine for under $400 on Black Friday
Reliability - it's supposed to be one of the old reliable names for what that's worth (Warn, Engo, Mile Marker, SuperWinch, Ramsey...)
Size - long & narrow, fits easily in front of radiator, didn't even have to bend any lines
Cons - little slow, but that's not really that big of a deal
I know several people with Engo - they are all happy.
If I had to do it again, the only other winch I might consider is SmittyBuilt.
They seem to be getting their act together.
I personally wouldn't pay the Warn price.
Nor would I trust Harbor Freight with anything load bearing/safety related.
Harbor Freight is for tarps, zip ties, tools I don't mind if they break.

How old is this synthetic rope you’re pulling off the old winch and what kind of condition is it in?
