A winch works off the car battery. There is no need for a separate battery. Just keep the engine running.

I have an optima red top as my start battery and I have my 12000lb winch running off of a 750cca yellow top. If I remember right the my winch required at least a 650cca. Should tell you in the instruction packet what that winch brand recommends as a minimum.

Running a odyssey. Ran a winch off my oem Panasonic battery for years but it did discharge my battery pretty fast (even with the vehicle running). I would have to jump the battery if I turned off the vehicle after winching if I didn’t let the alt recharge the battery. I have no such issues with the odyssey but it is a big ass battery
