Leaving doors open for a long time ...

2018 4Runner SR5

My car is setup as a camper with a sleeping platform inside.

Recently i was camping, engine was turned off and suddenly I heard quite a loud whirring noise in the exhaust area.
It lasted for a few minutes then stopped.

Car started and deove without issue, however the next day I noticed tht my radio and nav presets were gone.

This is the sequence of evenrts:

At night, I kept the key in the ignition with car turned off, I had to start the engine a couple of times during the night because it was too cold and had to heat up the interior.

Next morning, I took the key out of the ignition, and had all doors open for a few hours while making coffee and breakfast. While I has having coffee, I heard the noise described above. The doors were still open. The doors were open for 2-3 hours at least, with engine off and no key in the ignition.

Car drives fine, no issues, I am not worried, just curious of what happened, did I cause this by leaving doors open for a long time and/or key in the ignition with engine off at night ?

Any thoughts appreciated.

From Page 8 of your owners manual…

Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine:
Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.

I understand about the noise - however, is there any relationship to the reset nav and radio ? That's what's weird, car never did that before.

I'm just wandering if it was caused by me or it was just a random freaky occurence.

I can’t see there being any correlation to losing your presets. I’ve had my battery disconnected several times over the years and have never lost my presets. I had it disconnected for several hours last weekend while I installed the anytime backup camera. Only thing I had to reset was the clock. Average MPG reset too. If you’ve got enough juice to crank it, you should have plenty of power to keep the memory. I think you’ve got something else going on to cause that. Mine is a 2014. Maybe there is some differences in the year models.
