What he said. If you think you'll use them a lot, go with MaxTrax. If you go on a the beach a couple times a year, maybe wheel some easier stuff, etc. I'm sure the XBull or some of the other chinese knock offs will be fine.
Just remember, if you mount them to your hood you pretty much have to make an instagram page for your 4Runner with an overland name.

Well we don't have any friends that actually go out off the road, so we will be alone. I bought these and the only issue is there is no easy way to attach them. I tried 1/4 carriage bolts and plastic knobs but I couldn't get the knobs tight enough to actually hold the boards down. I have a torn labrum, so doing lifting and weird stuff is out. I was looking at buying 3ft of aluminum and cutting it into 2 1ft pcs and drilling holes but I know because of my arm I would mess up the holes and have to try again.
What do you guys think ?????????
The Boards-
Amazon.com: FieryRed Traction Boards with Jack Lift Base - 2 Pcs Traction Mat Recovery for Sand Mud Snow Track Tire Ladder 4X4 - Traction Tracks, Size: 42.57 inch (L) x 12.4 inch (W) X 2.6 inch (H), Black: Automotive
the knobs that can't be tightened down to secure the boards-

I have had TRED 1100 for years. I bought them back in the times of my OB, maybe 2014. They did not work well with the OB in my tests; 4Low is needed to actually use these things. The one time I needed them, I was not meant to be offroad and did not have them
I will say this. If I drove on beaches/dunes, I would go for the original and not cheap out.
Here in AZ/UT/CO/MT, I carry them only because I have them and there is plenty of room for them in the back right behind the rear seat. Maybe I will need them in mud at some point, but I don't seek mud. So for once in a blue moon use, a TRED or another alternative should do it.
But for beach/dunes, I would rather buy the best. This is especially true for recovery gear.

Consider ActionTrax. They are a bit cheaper and made here in America and American owned. They are extremely well made as well.

Another what he said.
Having used both, the cheaper ones will work just fine for occasional use or a few times. However if you are going to use them hard and multiple times, buy once cry once. (With most things in life). I'm not saying that the most expensive item is always the best but I have rarely regretted spending the money to get the best I could buy but I have often bought something at a lower price point only to wish later on that I had spent the extra up front.
FWIW I just told my best friend, who just bought a new Bronco Sport for beach camping to buy a shovel, CHEAP traction boards, and a 12v compressor as all he needs. I only recommend Maxtracks if the price doesn't hurt you, or if you are going to be using them a lot.
Recoveries with my Maxtrax in the last 3 years...
4runner:
2x mud
2x mud aided by winch
2x snow
1x sand
MANY times going up/down washed out trail
Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins:
2x mud
1x snow
2wd Tahoe
1x snow aided by winch
Chevy Spark
2x mud, (weird story)
After all these uses I only have a few teeth, (less than 10 across all 4 boards), that are damaged. I have been around cheaper boards during recoveries and while they work just as good as far as the extraction I am not sure they would hold up to that kind of use. If you are just fire road/beach camping/light offroad, get a $100.00 pair, throw them in the back for insurance, and don't worry about it.

X-bull works fine however they don't stack as well as maxtrax and take up more vertical space

If I could figure out how to mount these I would just stick to them and transfer the to the Jeep in a few months when I get the Maxtrax.

When it comes to overall cost, to me the extra money for Maxtrax is a drop in the overall bucket. Folks spend anywhere from $1k to +$10k on suspension, $1k on a roof rack, $1k on wheels/tires, +$1k on armor, etc so the extra ~$200 for a name brand recovery board is pretty minuscule compared to how much money folks dump into their rig.
But I get it... money is money. But there's a reason we all get name brand suspension and racks and sliders and armor... because we want it to work when the time comes, and that name brand inspires confidence in the product.

Have you had a chance to watch the YT video I linked comparing the two?
Also, others here have already vouched for competitors like XBULL.
There's nothing wrong in wanting the more expensive option, so long as you know why you're doing it. Plenty of us like the way things look, and yes the thinner more expensive option does look better.
3-4 times better? Not to me. I picked up a pair of black XBULLs and haven't looked back.

Thanks, I am now looking at the ARB boards now too. My wife is getting a jeep so we are going to need some boards and I will just put the black ones we have on her jeep and I will get new ones that can mount to the Prinsu rack.

I'm not saying xbull is bad, but even watching the video you can't say that it's better than Maxtrax, it isn't... even that vid says that. Like I said, it's your money, but when you spend 10's of thousands of dollars to upgrade a rig, a couple hundred extra for better recovery equipment is a drop in the bucket.
