I didn’t mean sidewall sorry. I spoke to a Cooper rep the other day and he stated the rugged trek is definitely trail capable the sidewall is a 2 ply but they are constructed out of high tensile strength polyester which is 20% tougher and stronger than most tires that are similar. He also said the rugged treks were tested extensively at cooper’s off road test site in west Texas before coming to market and that the XL load rated version is as durable and tough as a C load rated tire. He did not recommend an E load rated tire on a 4Runner.

Anybody else do any off roading with the rugged treks? I’ve only done some mud that was about 3-4 inches deep and they did quite well.

Mine are 265/70R17 and xl load rated. I would assume that since these haven’t been out for even a year yet that eventually cooper will bring out more sizes and different load ratings.

No snow or ice here yet, but I’ve had no issues with them in heavy rain. Traction has been good in all the conditions I’ve encountered.

In rain they’re great. We had some freezing rain here the other day. I was taking a curve at about 30mph not realizing just how slick the roads were getting and the rear did start to slide some but as soon as I got off the gas the rear end tucked right back in.

Tire Rack Testing

I’m sure everyone would have already seen the tire rack testing and video on these tires, but just in case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb--GrwXHEI&feature=youtu.be

I’m leaning towards these for my next tires in stock 265/70-17.

I’ve got a little over 10K miles on these so I’ll give a short update. Size is OEM.

Performance wise, they have been great. No issues with traction wet or dry. I’m deep in the south, so i can’t comment on winter traction. I know some have complained about the noise, but I’m not hearing any more noise from them than other AT’s. I honestly don’t hear them when driving. Tread life seems to be good. I just measured them at 14/32”. Not sure where they started.

The one negative is fuel mileage. I lost less than half a MPG during my in town and mixed driving, but highway mileage is down a couple of MPGs. I’m averaging 18 mixed and 19 highway. With Wildpeaks, i was getting 18.5 mixed and 21 hwy.
