Car Started and died immediately

Weird issue today after work. Started my car, it turned over like it normally would, but died immediately when the engine turned over. I didn’t notice any check engine lights or anything. I also have a volt meter plugged into the cigarette light, but it was over 12v before the engine turned over. Couldn’t tell what voltage it was at exactly since it happened so quick. I know for sure it read at least 12v or else the volt meter would blink, which it did not. I tried to start it again and it was perfectly normal.

I have an AGM battery with a voltage booster. My usual commute is 35-40 minutes one way if you need that info. Should I be concerned? Anything I should check?

This sounds exactly like what happens after you disconnect and reconnect a battery... The rig will die on first start up.

Had you disconnected the battery? Could your terminals be loose?

From another thread-

"Found it. Page 515.

●The engine may not start on the first attempt after the battery has recharged
but will start normally after the second attempt. This is not a malfunction."

Haven’t disconnected the battery and I don’t think it’s loose. If it was, my alarm would probably trigger. Usually when I would remove the negative battery terminal and reconnect it, it would trigger the alarm until I unlock/lock via the key fob.

I don't get that alarm when I disconnect the battery. I DO get the immediate die after the first start after I hook it up.

I've been doing a bunch of electrical work, so I've gone through that about 10 times since Dec.

Did you shift it out of park too quickly? That’s happened to me more than once, it’ll cut off immediately.

My tacoma did that when the battery died. It started fine, but as soon as I hit the brakes it died. Had to drive to the sore using the emergency brake to get a battery. True story!

If it doesn't do it anymore, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine does it every time I reconnect the battery just like the others do. I have also had it happen twice at random. It was about a year in between them. I can live with that.

If it continues, the battery is the first place to look.

I have this happen every once in a while when i use my remote start. Plus i get this beeping when it fails to start. Noida why it does this, i just Chalk it up to the very sensitive electronics in the Toyotas that just like everything perfect.

Though i thought it could have to do with the fuel pump recall.

Hey there! Don't sweat it too much; cars can be a bit quirky sometimes. It sounds like a hiccup that might not be a big deal. Your AGM battery with the voltage booster should generally be good to go. Maybe it just had a momentary glitch or something. Since your voltmeter was reading fine and the second start was normal, it might have been a random blip. If it keeps happening, maybe check your connections, but for now, I wouldn't stress too hard. Oh, and about that long commute, it's good to keep an eye on your battery's health. And speaking of cars, have you ever thought about car shipping door to door? I think this is a cool approach by many car companies that care about their customers.

Old thread. But I'll chime in. Mine does this to me maybe every 6 months to a year. Just once. Connections perfect, battery new or old, plugs new or old, MAF and air filter and TB clean or dirty, doesn't matter. Once every once in a while. It's always given me a second of pause and concern. But just for a second. Then it's fine for like another year until it does it just once again. I just accept it as normal now.

Do you have a smart key? If so I'd recommend replacing the battery in it.
