C1406 code - simple remedies not working

Okay 4Runner friends, I need some assistance.

I have the ABS, 4WD, and slip lights on the dash. The 4WD light is flashing. ABS and slip are constant.

I searched the forum and saw a discussion on ABS, 4WD, and slip indicator lights discussion. I havenÂ’t done a lift. I didnÂ’t replace lights with LEDs.

I have:
Changed the gas cap,
Replaced the whee speed indicators on LF and RF, and
Replaced the LF ABS wiring harness.

The OBD code I get is C1406, which is “open or short in front speed sensor LH circuit.”

Any ideas?

Most likely the ABS speed sensor on the front left wheel is bad, or the connector is not making good contact. Have you replaced that sensor?

Have you done a zero point calibration?

Why not do a continuity test on the wires and confirm the message?

Rat stopped by for a quick snack, follow the harness and look for open in the harness.

I replaced the wheel speed sensor and the wiring harness on that side, and the wheel speed sensor on the RH side, too.

I have not. I’ve watched the videos on YouTube, but they’re all for prior gens.

I replaced the harness. No hungry rats found.

To recap, I tried these things:
1) changing the gas cap (did not work),
2) changed LH and RH front wheel speed sensors (did not work),
3) changed LH wiring harness (did not work), and
4) completed zero point calibration (did not work).

I ended up punting it to the repair shop. According to the shop - deeper in the engine was a broken wire that controls the LH ABS.

So, there ya go, fellow 4Runners. The fix - relatively cheap. The diagnostics - 2 shop hours.

I had code c1406 and c1414. Replaced the sensor and wire and got rid of the c1406 code but not c1414.

After replacing the sensor and wire I did a road test and the ABS went crazy as soon as I hit the pedal and the code came back right away (after clearing with scanner).

Turns out my LF bearing was so bad that the speed signal got corrupted and threw the c1414 code.

Local shop struggled quite a bit to release old bearing and install new but issue is now fixed.
