DRL Disable but keep Auto Headlights

Hey all. I just picked up a new 2014 Limited 4wd to replace my trusty old 2005 sport v8. I miss the 8 but I'm adjusting.

Anyway I know on my last 4Runner the dealer was able to hook up the computer and kill the DRLs. I know on this one we can kill them by turning them off on the stalk but then we lose auto headlights.

Has anyone figured out how to disable the high beam DRLs when the stalk is in the auto position?

Oh and DRL lovers please don't try and sell me on them. I just want to be able to keep the auto headlight feature on my truck and not have DRLs. It's not require by law where I am.

Thanks!
Keith

It's not the law here either, but I think they look cool. The dealer/Techstream programmable features are listed in the manual. This may be one of them.

I looked in the book under those dealer options and didn't see it. They owe me stuff so I'll ask when it comes in.

I asked the Service Manager at the dealership about this disable via computer, he checked and said they have no specs on how this could be done that way.
I too am interested, without having to clip and ground wires!
If someone has different info, please post!

So that don't work.

Thanks though

Gotcha, I believe my 2013 is a separate amber bulb. I kinda like the amber color for daytime.

I went on the online Toyota service manual site and researched it. I'm attaching the PDF files I made with a diagram of the system from the relay to the ECU. I'm not an electrical guru but I asked a couple of friends to take a quick peek though. It looks like if you got rid of pin #2 on the DRL relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood it should kill them.

As I don't know much about wiring in cars and I don't see how you could take this relay apart. Also I'm a little hesitant because a replacement relay is over $100, and I don't know if killing that pin will do it nor do I know if it will have the desired effect (keeping auto headlights) or if there will be any side effects.

Take a look. I'd love to figure this out.

Pin two is the second to the right.

Also the manual said they could be disabled in Techstream but I don't have the software and when I had them turn off the economy bar on the central display they said there was no way to turn them off with Techstream in the 2014. Our owners manual also does not indicate they can be turned off in Techstream, so it might be a misprint.

The old ones could be turned off by the dealer in Techstream. The 2014s can be turned off at the stalk but then we lose auto headlights.

It cracks me up when I look at the headlights and see how nice it would have looked with LED lighting on the silver trim at the top. Guess they didn't want to make it too close to a Lexus.

Has anyone checked for a DRL fuse? 90% of vehicles have a designated fuse for it, unless Toyota fall under the other 10%... I havent looked since I like my yellow DRLs (replaced bulb)

Pulling the fuse kills the high beams.

Should be a specific fuse for the DRLs, new gen Nissans have it, all GM have it, Honda have it as well.
