Do anybody added a third row ?
Many thread about people ditching their third row...
But never heard of anyone adding one.
Theoretically, if I get the part of somebody third row. Would it be possible to add one to my truck?
Thanks

Best bet would be to find someone that would be willing to straight up swap versus trying to collect all the parts.

It's actually more complicated than you probably realize. The 3rd row option uses a different fold down seat system for the 2nd row. Where is the standard 2 row 4Runner allows you to pull the seat up and fold down the back rest (for an even flat floor), the 3rd row option requires the 2nd row to simply fold the back rest down. This is about as close to being flush with the 3rd row folded. (It's actually slanted towards the rear).
Anyways, I have heard of people buying 3rd row seats for the standard 4Runner, but I don't think you can easily fold them.
Good luck!

I agree as I have the SR5 with 3rd row. People who are considering it still need to think about the seatbelts, upper quarter trims and possibly airbags.

It's not as easy as you'd think. You'll have to remove your current 2nd row seats and replace them with the 2nd row seats that accompany the 3rd row seats. They fold differently than the seats you currently have to allow access to the 3rd row. Then you'll have to add the 3rd row seats. I think that also involves changing the plastic panels in the cargo area. Then you'll have to add all the seat belts. Who knows how many new bolt holes you may to drill to add all these things. You'll have to buy 2nd row seats, 3rd row seats, cargo panels, and seat belts.

I think I remember one person trying to add one. Think there may even be a thread about it here somewhere. It's not an easy job, and could cost a decent amount all in. You may be better off trading for a Runner that already has it if you really need it that badly.

All this. That is why I'd recommend finding someone that would be willing to swap everything over. Hell, I'd probably just buy a used 4Runner with 3rd row, make the swap, resell the used 4Runner.

I can not recall who but one of the vendors here did the swap, a White trail IIRC. One thing I am not sure if it was addressed in the swap or not was the side curtain airbags and if there was any difference between models with and without 3rd row.
IMHO, due to the high resale of 4runners I would consider trading for a model with 3rd row if you really need it. I understand you can not get a trail so there will be some features lose but almost all can be added and I bet is easier then adding a 3rd row, depending on which are must haves.
Another option, I have seen aftermarket rear facing 3rd rows for jeeps, not sure if that is a good of bad idea but its a thought

Check the Domello build thread as they added third row, as well as this thread:

Wish you were in Calgary I would gladly swap or sell my 3rd Row. Can't say I would know how to go about it all.

I too want to add one additional, after market seat, to my currently empty third row. I don’t have the option to trade vehicles. I’ve searched out the previous threads, but noticed it’s been a while since the topic was brought up, and most posts refer to Gen 3 or Gen 4 rigs. Has anyone found a good solution yet?
I want to purchase an after market seat for one person, and mount it in the cargo space of my 2016, Gen 5, Toyota Four Runner.
Any advice?

No. If I had the third row, even folded, I would have to step up to a Sequoia to reclaim the cargo room. Not a fan of using second row for storage. That’s the dog zone.
Same reason we got our latest fridge (old style under/over) without an ice maker. Without one, we have enough space to buy the 18 cubic foot steal from the scratch & dent section and make it work. $449!
