Just because I am curious, is the Gen 2 V1 that much better?

I did not even wire the V1 in my new 4runner as my old V1 (that has been updated to the latest version) just tells me about every car that has a collision avoidance system. It is so bad that I do not even respond to the K sound on my V1.
I use it in my Z4 as I want to know when to actually look at the speedo and it has saved my so many times, I cannot count.

I have my V1G1 in my minivan…i turned off the K-band. So, it only detects Ka and Laser. By doing that, it is pretty good and silent.

V1G2 is in my LC…i leave everything on, except X-band. And it is quiet for the most part. Still has a few false alarms in city (mainly with K-bands). But out on the highway, it is great.

For both, they are always on, whether in city or highway. V1G2 is pretty quiet all-around that i can leave it on 100% of the time.

And yes, both have saved my bacon a few times! Actually, V1 both generations is pretty much renowned for their LASER detection. I actually escaped a clear ticket with cop using laser a few weeks ago.

One of the things I like about the V1 is they come out with updates and improvements; for a fee, you can get a new V1 in exchange for your old one. I did that several times with my gen 1.

One of the most important updates, a couple years back, was to remove most false alarms from car radar sensors when you use the full logic mode. Your gen 1 must not have that update or you are not using full logic mode.

The new gen 2 also does not respond to most car radar sensors when in full logic mode. It looks at the frequency of the radar and determines if it is within the frequency range authorized for police use or not. If not, it does not alarm.

My gen 2 hardly ever gives a false alarm when in full logic mode. With the cell phone app, you can actually see the real frequency of the radar being detected, and the authorized bands allowed for police by law; really neat.

Yes, the gen 2 is much better in range. On a recent trip though central Utah on I15, there is almost constant highway patrol south of Nephi. In the past with my gen 1, I could pick them up one or 2 miles away, but with my gen 2, that has increased to about 5 miles. The annoying part of that is you are watching to find the HP for 5 miles, instead of one or two.

If you use the full logic mode, most car radar is not alarmed.

I've been using V1 nearly since Mike Valentine left Escort.
V1Gen2 is incredible, and if you marry it up to JBV1 or the Apple app along with listening to Waze, you have a as close to a complete picture of whats ahead as possible.

There's another app to marry to JBV1... Highway Patrol?? or something like that, which also gives you additional crowd sourced info.

Pretty much a total package.

So here's something odd I found.
The cigarette outlet in the center console solves my problem.
What's odd is it seems there's only 1 fuse for all 12V accessory power outlets??

I still think that it is my V1G2.

On my LC, i am using a cigarette outlet splitter…one becomes two. So, one outlet has my front-facing dash cam. The other outlet goes to my V1G2.

When i turn on my car, my dash cam comes on instantly without intervention. But, my V1G2 does not…requires me to push the power button to turn it on.

Note that my V1G1 (1st gen) comes on automatically via same outlet. V1G2 does not.

Not a big deal…i have not called Valentine. It is a habit now for me to push the power button everytime. Just saw this thread and got interested.

Having owned V1's since they came out (I even had the old "large case" V1 for quite some time) I can say the new ones are much better. I had a fully updated Gen 1 (that my son now has) and the new one blows it away on all counts.
