Valentine 1 Detector StartUp Issue
My V1 Gen 2 plugged into the cigarette lighter socket on a 2021 Limited has to be manually turned on after the truck is started. The circuit is initially hot then turns momentarily goes cold during engine start up.
Over on a radar detector forum someone suggested there has to be a "switched circuit" that isn't cut off during start up.
Would anyone know of any of these?
It'd be pretty tough to depress the break pedal, push the start button and hold meter probes on a fuse at the same time. I'd need to hire Nixon's Secretary for help. LOL

Grab a multimeter and check the fuse box by your left knee. Wire in there. Real easy.

I honestly hadn't realized that radar detectors are still used much. I remember using them daily almost 20 years ago.

I have had a V1 for years and currently have the generation 2, all plugged into the cigarette lighter. I have never had that problem, thus the problem is with the radar detector. See if Valentine can help you. You do not need to find a circuit that stays on when the car is started.

Radar detectors, especially the Valentine One, is really hot with the fast car crowd (Porsche, Corvette, Mustang, Camaro, etc. ). I have had one for years.

V1G1…turns on automatically when car is on.
V1G2…need to be manually turned on.
Both plugged into cigarette lighter outlet of my LC.
I am interested in solution to this issue with V1G2.
(BTW, V1G2 is phenomenal. Love it.)

I have one of each, and they both power up when I start the vehicle. In both cases I hard-wired them to power.

yeah, but that is with you hardwiring it. Thru cigarette lighter, the old one powers up automatically. The new one does not. I always thought that was intentional by Valentine??

I have a gen 2 plugged into the cigarette lighter and it always turns on automatically when I start the car. My gen 1 I had before always did the same.

I've got one in both my sports cars, hadn't really ever considered putting it in the 4runner though. Saved me enough times to make it worth it.

The goal here is to never have to touch the V1 power button.
Hard wiring into an always hot circuit would require to manually power down the unit.
November 2020 is when I purchased this 4R. Prior to that i drove an F150. I hard wired the V1 to a switched circuit in the Ford and all worked like it should.
With the 4R there's a brief moment when there's power during engine start up, then power is cut off, then returns to hot 12Volts.
As far as running a detector in a 4R? The truck will cruise rather well at 80 or so. Seems like the cops aren't much interested in ticketing that speed since the virus, but there's a lot of cops shooting radar around where I live. If you drive 1000 miles a week, sometimes I need to push the limit to make the next stop.
If you don't have a detector, you don't know what you don't know is really the situation. Not saying its wrong or dumb not to have one, but to think all is safe while exceeding the limit? Well in most states you can simply pay a lawyer plus double the fine and court cost. That's really the only risk.
WAZE does a decent job but you get a lot of stale warnings as well as cop warnings on the wrong side of the highway. The detector give you a mile of 2 verification.
For me, if I'm driving a car without a detector, 5mph over cruise speed is about all I'll risk.

Nobody is talking about hardwiring into an always on circuit. We're talking ab out a switched circuit that does not have the brief "off" then "on" the OP described.

Just adding some data - my Escort REDLINE (orignal v1) starts up no issue in my '21.

I am the OP and someone did imply simply find a switched circuit.
