I think they were more doing it out of caution on the sidewall height and them personally having no experience with these tires (I had some previous experience using them on my Nissan Rogue for winter driving, obviously smaller size and not airing them down). Is this an issue of (IIRC) these tires having only 2 ply sidewalls? What is probably the lowest you would dare to go in a rocky trail scenario?

Yes, it is an issue of 2-ply sidewalls. They are generally not designed to be aired down for off-road applications.

FWIW my Falkens (same same) purchased 7/22 were also made in Japan.

Just put these tires on (stock size, SL rating) from KO2 (stock size, C load). The Falken's are way better in the rain. A good thing living in rainy Vancouver Canada. Glad I made the switch!

Finally replaced the terrifying stock tires after 35k with a set of these (including the spare). Stock size, SL rating. Standard mount and balance. No shake, shimmy, or shudder.

Downside to the Falkens is they are heavy. I didn't worry about it with my F150 because it's pushing over 380hp and only weighs 5200# (plus all the crap I have in it).

Trading the F150 on a 4Runner though and at 100hp less and nearly the same weight, I am more concerned about weight. Still want an LT so I'm probably going with Toyo AT3's. I've run Toyo AT2's and Falken AT3W's and felt they were comparable. I've got General Grabber ATx now (because someone forgot to order the Falken's when I made an appt for tires) and they're ok on dry roads, ok in snow and not great in rain (the Falkens and Toyos were better all around).

(edit: and yeah, while I'm concerned about weight, not so much that I don't plan on going up to 275's before I drive it home...)

Anyone run these in the Load Range C (285/70/17) which is made specifically to Jeeps OE specs? Heavy, like all Wildpeaks, but that added weight is added durability - especially in this specific size. The same size Duratrac in a load range D is 10 lbs lighter, but presumably a much weaker tire for off-roading. The Wildpeaks not only have a great reputation for a variety of on road/all terrain handling and traction, but also off road durability. Just wondering if the weight trade off is worth it over something like the Duratracs.

I run them 15 to 18 psi at the beach and 18 to 20 psi on the trail. Zero issues in either scenario. That includes running fully loaded on the White Rim Road and some trails on the east coast. Been a great tire so far.

No. It's 4 tread plies and 2 sidewall plies. Most passenger truck tires are 2 or 3 ply sidewalls. The tread plies are what go up as you go from SL, C, D, and E load ratings, usually 2 per rating.

Got it. Guess I misunderstood the spec sheet.
