2 years ago I bought my 2016 with a CPO warranty and had the limp mode issue the day I drove it home from the dealer. I got it fixed under warranty right away and it's been great since. I've added quite a few LEDs to the rig since then, too. From what I've read, it seems like this issue can happen to most model years of the 5th gen.

If I remember correctly, on Toyota's website to build a 4runner, wasn't there an option to pick upgraded LED interior lights?

Please research that and if you find it, please take a screenshot & post it or link it!

They stated if an issue occurred they would have to look again to see if it would be covered under warranty due to LED's installed. Which I think is a bunch of BS!

Going to install them a couple at a time...methinks!

I hope it stays fixed for you. I can’t leave anything stock, but every time I change something I’m waiting on the electronics to not like it.

So I talked to the parts guy at my local Toyota dealership. He confirmed that it was an option on the 2021 to upgrade the interior lights to LED. But it was something that had to be done during production and not at port.

That’s strange, I’ve looked thru all of the build sequences and never saw that option.
I’ve also asked my parts contact if there were any Toyota replacement LEDs, I was informed there were none.
I would love to get part numbers if that is an option that you could ever get from your contact.
Thx

Yea I know that option was not there when I first did the online build last year when the 2021 models started to come out. But I saw it earlier this year as an option. Parts guy even looked it up and showed on his computer that it was something he couldn't order.

I’m glad you finally got this fixed. Too bad it took so long for it to reoccur for Toyota to acknowledge it and apply their fix for a known problem.

You are not alone, this has been an occasional issue with the throttle body that has nothing to do with interior LEDs. Here’s one case, see post 7 regarding the text for T-SB-0092-11 August 9, 2011.
Repeated P2111 Code

Today, I finally got Toyota Corporate for admit and confirm that my LEDs did not have anything to do with the failure code P2111 for the throttle body.

What an ordeal to go thru to get Toyota to repair an item on a new truck where there are known issues and try to blame it on the end user until the end user proves otherwise.
#Toyota Corporate ought to take note when these things happen and try to do just the opposite!

So, I will re-install my LEDs and see what happens next!

Thanks to all that pointed out TSBs on this issue!!!

OP, glad to see you got it sorted.

I will add a similar experience with my sprint booster during an off-road trip. Going hard through deep sand I got into limp mode under the same code p2111... in the sand, limp mode would get you nowhere but stuck.

Luckily I had the OBD reader and torque app on hand. After a few attempts, I eventually removed the sprint booster and cleared the code. I hit limp mode two or three times that day (after removing the sprint booster), but it finally went away after that. Guess it must've taken some time to 're-learn' things.

Now 4 years and 45,000 miles later, no sign of p2111 anymore. Knock on wood.

Nope. Went with the URD MAF sensor calibrator the year after that incident and never looked back.

Has the same issue with my 2013 SR5 a few weeks ago. Had throttle actuator code on my obd scanner app and took a gamble on it being the Throttle Body. Seeing as the TPS could not be ordered separately, it was a gamble. Got a new one and replaced it and code is gone and car is running fine.

Intermittent problems can be a bear to solve. But sometimes the simplest diagnosis is correct. A mechanically sticky throttle valve is just that, due to contamination or a manufacturing flaw. The solution is to clean it or replace the whole assembly.
Here’s another document for your reference library:
https://www.purefjcruiser.com/docs/2...em/0050050.pdf

I wouldn’t hesitate to install all your interior LEDs. And the SB. However, I would not install any aftermarket headlight LEDs, for different reasons.
