These Things Can Sure Take a Licking

Had a TRD ORP for about 3 weeks when unfortunately it was flipped when someone blew though a red light. Took a nasty lick and the thing ended up on its side.

Thankfully, beyond some shoulder pain, still standing and the dealer where I purchased my TRD got me into a Venture instead with KDSS sans moonroof.
Pretty crazy that in 2021, I have now had a 2021 GX and now my 2nd 4Runner.

Glad You're okay!

This makes me feel a bit better. I'm in a similar situation. I had a head on collision in my H3 and that thing tanked it like an angry brick wall and annihilated the front end of the other car. I honestly heard more than felt the crash it was so sturdy. The other car went mostly underneath and wrapped a bit around my front end, but I was still able to back up and drive out of the road. Very sadly totaled it. But I came out with 0 injuries. I'm about to get a Venture as well. It will be my first 4 runner.

Thanks fellas! The whole thing was a major bummer as I reckoned I had pretty close to what I exactly wanted in my ORP.
Mostly, living somewhere that in July rarely gets past 60 and has never reached 90 degrees ever, moonroofs are a nice thing to have.

Ironhide, really glad you are ok as well and best wishes and congratulations on the Venture!

Glad you're both okay. That looked like a rough hit!

To add to the resiliency discussion of these things, we rolled our 4Runner in the Smokies and after rolling it back over, it started right up without any fluid leaks or suspension kinks.
We drove it all the way back to Houston without a single dash light or mechanical issues.

It's hard to see in the pictures but there was a concrete and metal drainage ditch the front slid off and was sitting on in.

I definitely trust this thing a lot more in an emergency situation, especially in an intense one like yours!

@Aggie , it's a shame you didn't have CRAWL mode or you probably could've driven right out of that "little ditch".
@Mark Linkous , that's a pretty serious lick! Technology is our friend.

On a serious note- glad to hear both of you faired well through the accidents. That side curtain pic is pretty impressive to know that level of safety is there to help.

Keep 'er wheels down, fellas!

Question Your weather sounds great

I'm glad you're OK (and Ironhide, too), sorry about your 4Runner. I don't open my moonroof in my 2012 TE very often, but I might if we had weather like yours.... lots of 90+ days with high humidity this summer and not really unusual.

May I ask about where this Nirvana for people who don't care for heat is? Are you at altitude where it doesn't get too hot?

4Runners seems to do good in accidents.

What is with that BS from the Consumer Reports and the IIHS about 4Runners being bad in accidents?

I live in Humboldt County, CA (Eureka). Unbelievably affected by the Pacific yet drive 30-40 inland or East and it will be 90 when 60 here.
61 here currently.

Aggie, that really does provide a powerful endorsement for the durability and quality of these vehicles.

I'm no expert but I think it has something to do with unibody cars being made to crunch to lessen impact force. So they get a better crash score. A body on frame doesn't really crunch. It takes the force. Correct me if I'm wrong. BUT my H3 absorbed the force with its ancient shocks. It rocked really hard but like I said I didn't really feel the impact.

The 4 runner is a SUV and the heavier mass car usually 'wins' in a crash. That matters a lot to me when considering a car's safety.

@AggieOE I'm confused on how you managed that. You parked your car there and it fell in?

Pretty crazy that in 2021, I have now had a 2021 GX and now my 2nd 4Runner.

Glad you are ok. Looks like the air bags did there job as well.
Enjoy your new T4R!

Who knows? On the IIHS website it shows a picture during a frontal overlap crash and notes that there is a moderate risk for injuries to both legs. And the picture doesn't look good by any means, but then they give the 4R the highest rating for leg/foot injuries. I agree with you that they do seem to do good in accidents though.

Also, glad everyone who had an accident is OK. Never a fun experience.
