Anybody using techstream?

I'm thinking about ordering the drewtech mongoose.
Is anybody using this cable?
Are there options that you would recommend?
I'm a retired auto tech and want to be able to work on my 2016 4Runner and wife's future Rav4.
Is there a place somebody can recommend downloading the toyota software?

Many of us are using techstream.

You basically have 3 options:
1. eBay MVCI cable for $30. This generally includes a pirated copy of Techstream. The cable is able to read historical data, reset codes, perform zero point calibration, change TPMS codes, etc. but will choke trying to get real time data and cannot flash/reprogram anything (like adding a factory remote start to the immobilizer).

2. Mongoose cable has full functionality, but you'll have to either pirate techstream or pay (dearly) for Techstream light.

3. Full techstream, basically dealer only because of cost.

Well that's a bummer. Hoping to get a functional tool without massive cost. Thanks!

not sure all of what your trying to do, but the carista app is able to read live data. I recently used it to customize the dealer options. I found a dongle under $20 that works with the app which is a $10/month price or $90 for life I believe. The carista dongle was back ordered heavily when I ordered it. LMK if you have any questions or want some more info!

$1200 a year? I know people who spend more on STARBUCKS. Helping others with TechStream it could pay for itself.

I keep hearing that the ECM is locked down on the 2020+ 4Runners, limiting tuning options. Is this still the case if one has TechStream access?

Below is method I use to get TS running. Was very easy IMO. Programmed some keys and turned off seatbelts so far.
