Pet barrier and car seats

Is it safe to use a pet barrier (to keep dog in cargo area), when there is a car seat in the middle row? What would happen in an accident, could the pet barrier fall on the car seat? I am referring to this one Pet Barrier For Cars / Backseat Area Barrier -- Orvis

Also, can you made adjustments to the middle row seats with a headrest type pet barrier installed?

Thanks

I wouldn't go with that pet barrier. It looks like it hooks up to the top of the seat and could fall forward. I've had my two dogs (a yellow lad and a Golden Retriever) knock small barriers down before and end up sitting in the front seat. This is the current barrier i have and as long as the back seat is up the barrier is secure and in place. As you can tell it goes below the seat so if you do have the seats down, big dogs cant fit under it

Something to think about is to strap the pets in. I use a pet barrier and I also strap them down to the hooks in the back so they cant jump out a window or won't decide they are superman and go flying out my front or side windows in case of an accident. Safety first for the pets you love.

Pets should really be secured in the vehicle some how. Either a crate or a strap IMO. They are just as likely to fly out the window in a roll over and that rarely turns out well since the vehicle is travel the same direction.

Another vote for some sort of strap attached to one of the load floor rings. I ordered a 1" nylon webbing strap with bolt snap ends for only $10ish delivered from strapworks.com last year. Your pet is more secure and there's no hassle fighting with removing the pet barrier if you ever need the full cargo length. Our GSP was alwasy a bit of a nervous nellie in the car when loose in the cargo bay or in the back seat with a seat belt strap, but as soon as she was clipped in to the cargo D-ring, she became a happy car dog.

thanks guys. I've decided to crate the dog and tie the crate down as mentioned above.
