So, my Offroam mount came today, and took all of 60 seconds to install. The machining, design, concept, and packaging are all excellent. It's super-stout and doesn't move at all, is padded in all the right places, and is dead simple to operate. I've been waiting a long time for a clamp like this. No drilling (I was starting to resign myself to that as the best/most sturdy option), and can easily be placed to not block the vents and stereo. Unless it fails catastrophically or becomes unable to hold firm over bumpy roads (neither seems likely), my search is over. Will certainly followup if either of those come to pass. Great job, Offroam!

Oh, I would also be remiss if I didn't point out that Offroam was great to deal with. I received a proactive note from Alexa thanking me for the order, and double-checking to see that I'd seen the note on their website that the order would ship this week (not last week). I hadn't, so it was awesome of her to reach out - I suspect by the weekend I'd be wondering why it hadn't shipped yet. :-p

This holder has been thoroughly tested on all kinds of roads - including all over Baja, Mojave etc. and all sorts of vehicles. The spring tension took a lot of time to get right - so you can use one hand to get the phone in/out but keep it without sliding on any terrain.

We did a lot of work on the surface of the sides as well - so even if you use your phone without a case where sides are slippery, the holder still provides ample grip.

It looks like a copy of the 67 Designs mount, which is made in the USA.

I have the ProClip for my 4R. It works great. Its much lower than my last mount was. It blocks the vent somewhat, but like someone pointed out earlier it does keep phone cool which will help on long trips. I still get plenty of air on the hot days of Texas.

Hi have been using the Scosche Magic Mount like this one.

Scosche MagicMount Universal Magnetic Phone Holder for Mobile Devices - Black | eBay

I’ve been very happy with it and have had no complaints. I think magnetic mounts are the way to go. Simply put it on and you’re good to go. I’ve had grip mounts before but I found them a bit clumsy and usually requires two hands to put it in the mount. I’ve also had mounts that clipped on to air vents but they didn’t seem to hold all that well and long term use I think they will eventually damage the plastic air vents.

Ram Mount with apple magsafe attachment.. quick and easy on and off with the bonus of charging! Disliked the x grip holder for every day use.

Some of you are wild for drilling into your dash! I just use Android Auto and my screen. I found most mounts just block too much and I hate the extra hardware on my phone.

I didn't want anything up in my line of sight or blocking the A/C vents so I machined a plate that replaces the cigarette lighter plug I've never used to hold a ram mount.

I use a Spiegel MagSafe mount and really like it. Only complaint is that it only fits very low (will add a picture later), but then again it's too low to stare at when I'm driving.

MagSafe Compatible Car Charger and Holder - Spiegel

If you don't have a MagSafe phone, I previously had a quad lock case to use as a bike mount and I liked that, but I never read any good reviews on their car mounts. If you can find a good car mount from them, quad lock works well. only downside IMO is their cases are larger (the locking mechanism fits into the case grooves, so it is not minimal).

I have one of those 'LoveHandle' elastic things mounted on the far side of the back of my phone with the steel plate across the rest and it works sufficiently enough and overhangs the mount just a bit. If offroading shows this method not working, I'll just remove the elastic strap and let the whole phone contact the magnet. I know that'll work if this current set-up doesn't.

Looking back, I'd have done the diamond plate base, nano arm, and G3 magnet. No way I'd order a G2 for anything unless it was going to be used primarily horizontal.
What did you use for mounting hardware, looks good.

Going to be selling my phone mount if anyone is interested, my new phone is too big and interferes with the shifter, but it's a very solid mount and worked great with my Pixel 5. It's a 67 holder with Expedition Overland mount. Let me know if you'd be interested. It works with my bigger Pixel 7 Pro and holds it with an Otterbox case on it, I just can't use it where I have it mounted and already bought a QI wireless charger to swap it to
