Dobinsons IMS 2.5" Lift which rear springs 1.5 or 2"

2021 4runner venture. I have narrowed my choice for my lift down to Dobinsons 2.5" IMS lift (with UCA's). Dobinsons Direct says 1.5" rear spring will level the rig. Mainly just daily driving, nothing in rear, never adding weight (bumpers ect...) may tow something in the future but it would be a once and done. Anyone had experiance with a Dobinsons 2.5/1.5 or a 2.5/2 just hopeful for advice from people that have done the same lift on which rear springs to pick.

If you're going with the IMS front struts, you can set (or raise, if you get pre-built fronts) the coil seats above the standard 213mm setting with or without KDSS. If your truck has KDSS you can also lower them below the standard 213mm setting. That's great info to know up front in case you get a set of coil springs that end up giving you a lot more lift than their marketing specs say you should get, which seems to be fairly common.

In my case, I went with the C59-314 front coils (supposedly a 3" lift with a stock weight truck), but it gave me 4" of lift until I installed my steel skid plates. The front now sits at 3.75" which is at least an inch higher than what it should be. When the temperature dips down, I'm going to lower them to around 2.50" to 2.75" since my truck has KDSS. If I didn't have KDSS I would be stuck with a lift that is way too high.

I originally went with the C59-325 rear coils (supposed to be 2" lift with a stock weight truck) but they gave me almost 3" of lift until my fuel tank skid went on. I always have about 100 lbs of stuff in the back, but the rear now sits at 2.7" in the back. There is no way to lower the rear unless you install shorter coils, so I ordered a set of C59-505 (supposed to be 1.5" lift with a stock weight truck), but that is a whole other can of worms...

Anyway the truck drives great when I'm hauling 5 people plus gear, but if it's just me the ride is rough and bouncy as all hell. I think the IMS struts and shocks are excellent quality, but their coil springs are inconsistent. I suspect if I could test the coils the spring rates would be much higher than the quoted 586 lbf/in (front) and 220 lbf/in (rear).

Just saying, depending on your setup, you might want to opt for springs that are 1/2" to 1" shorter than what Dobinsons says they will be. You can always raise the front by raising the coil seats. You can also easily raise the rear with small trim spacers. If you get a slight rear lean, the trim spacer option is also good to level it out. Dobinsons only offers a 15mm rear trim spacer, but OME has several different ones (5mm, 10mm, 15mm etc).

Thank you for the great information. The Dobinsons kit comes with the KDSS spacers. Great info on the springs, gives me something to research and like you say I can go 1.5 in the rear then adjust the fonts. Thanks

My pleasure! The KDSS spacers from Treaty Oak are terrific. They do a great job of returning the sway bars close to their original position. I don't have any lean in front, and only a very slight lean in the right rear, but it's not noticeable to the naked eye.

After 72 hours straight of research

After reading the comments and suggestions and 72 hours total of research from others posts. I decided on the Dobinsons IMS with the 2/1.5" springs for stock load, KDSS spacer and Dobinsons UCA ( Still Kinda torn on the UCA, JBA is like 300 cheaper if I have Dobinsons press my ball joint). Anyway I am not running any extra weight and will probably never tow and rarely go off road, so from what I have read those springs will level the 4runner and give me a nice ride. Now I just need a good SALE from Dobinsons, CC in hand...lol

Nice! I think you'll be very happy with that setup. If you can wait for Black Friday they usually do something like a 10% to 15% off sale.

My dilemma as well. Like the Dobinson IMS but still debating what set up to get.

302 front, 505 rear? Or 302 front, 325 rear. I like to keep some factory rake. But of course don’t want to increase the rake. And definitely do not want the reverse rake, which many “leveled “ 4Runners seem to look like have. As poster above, I do not plan on adding any aftermarket number, winches, roof racks, tents, rock sliders. Just want lift for better performance on and off light road, better stance, fit 285 tires.
