2010 4unner limited - start vibrating after 80mi/h.

My 2010 service me well since day one. But recently I took it on a 3000km road trip and noticed it start vibrating at higher speeds like over 80mi/h. I did an emergency stop once with a sort of hard brake. Not sure if that may damage any parts. I noticed after the hard brake, each time I brake wheel will shake. I guess the hard stop at least contributes something to rotors which I have already plan to replace. I just want to know if the rotor also can cause vibration at high speed?

Yes, rotors can cause vibration at high speed and other speeds as well. If the rotor get really hot (hard braking, extended downhill braking) and is then cooled too fast, the rotor can warp, causing a vibration.

Also, if you do a very hard brake and the tires slide, you can flat spot the tires which will also cause a vibration.

Nothing you can do about either of those except replace the rotor/tire causing the problem.

There was a story from one of the other users who had this persistent vibration. Rebuilt both front calipers and it stopped completely. For once, it was NOT tires.

My front strut also diagnosed as leaking. But the shop told me I can still drive it but should replace it after road trip. Do you think leaking struts can also cause high-speed vibration?

Absolutely. Never had death wobble but most noticeable with leaking strut was the car not staying planted when cornering on rough pavement.

Thannks for your reply. My shaking issue is not happening when cornering, so I am wondering if new struts can fix this high-speed shaking.

But I guess I am going to replace rotors first as my limited 4runnrer has X-REAS, I don't think I can replace myself unless I decide to get rid if X-REAS. I am still cannot decide to drop X-REAS yet.
