I have a victory 4x4 full rack (because of budget) and now I’m looking to add their ladder. The rack is awesome for the price but I don’t have any opinion about ladders yet.

I’m just replying to say you’re so lucky to have a wife into the 4runner. I always have to convince mine that I’ve saved enough money for (insert upgrade mod here)!

She’s definitely into the 4R and I’ve always wanted to build one up. I previously had a 5th gen then got into a Tundra Pro when they come out. I loved the 4R but missed the separation from cargo of a truck. She went 130k on a Subaru Outback then decided to get the 4r(I was very supportive). Her idea is to have her camping stuff ready to roll always and to be able to sit on top of her truck. We will probably go with a roof rack at some point, but I may make a “floor” for the factory rack in the short term. Ladder for access up there.

I appreciate all the info

Interesting. I bought my sliders from them and had them tweaked and no extra duties. I'm in Seattle. It can't be a state-by-state thing can it?

I keep putting the BajaRack ladder and drop in basket rack into a cart and then coming to the conclusion that I don't need either of them. I'm right at the weight limit and just don't understand what I would actually use it for other than basically a rear hatch 'rack' to attach things to. My better half could use it and actually lift a cargo item up without breaking the weight limit, but again, that seems like a real edge use case when I can just stand on the slider or use a tall step stool.

It's one of those 'I think it looks cool but has zero practical use' when I sit down and think about it.

Not sure. It’s possible it was based on the BOL and customs documentation stating it was aluminum tubing and the new tariffs of aluminum imports.

We got hit from FedEx on a part for one of our airplanes. Ordered through Bombardier which is Canadian but their main parts warehouse is in Chicago. The part we needed was in the warehouse in Germany. Ended up not needing it and sent it back to Chicago, unopened. About two weeks later in comes a FedEx bill for VAT on a $23K part we didn't end up using. We've had parts sent from other international warehouses before due to availability but this was the first time we ever got hit with VAT. Fortunately Bombardier reimbursed us.

It was probably along the lines of 10-15% the purchase price.

My Baja Rack ladder is stand alone. It’s a simple ladder that was easy to attach and can be easily removed as well.

How often do yall use the ladder. I've been interested in one but often find it easier to load things on the roof from the side instead of the back.

Gobi definitely looks like quality stuff but if you are in the market you probably owe it to yourself to at least peak at the (currently 17 page) thread on Gobi's significant fulfilment delays and poor communication.
I ordered my Gobi back in .̶.̶.̶A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶.̶.̶.̶(̶?̶)̶ March 9th (I looked for the email) and they were very communicative right away. Then I didn't hear anything from them and was getting worried it would be close to a year or so. I did the 'request order status' on their website and heard nothing.

Last week they called me at work (Friday...? (10/22). I answered and my rack is expected to arrive tomorrow. So far they were very nice and helpful. You just have to be patient and expect a somewhat extended wait time.

They don't charge you until your rack ships, and they call to confirm you still want it (not sure what they do if you don't. Maybe some lucky bastard gets their rack earlier...).

Unless I have any issues tomorrow, I would 100% recommend them.

Hope it works out for you. Like I said, they really look like good quality pieces but not sure how the company is still in business with all the reports of such poor communication.

Ordered by Gobi rack on March 3rd. Charged to card October 4, delivered on October 12.
A LONG wait, but I knew that when I ordered it. 7 months though…
However, it’s a really nice rack and ladder.
