I don’t think keeping it in 4th is going to accomplish much.
Going from the valley in Phoenix to 7000 feet puts a lot of strain on this engine when trying to keep up and pass other vehicles when climbing at that altitude.
Regarding the turbos, the lag is really exaggerated here at altitude.
I think a powerful NA engine solves that problem, even when accounting for a loss of power at altitude.
And the difference between the 5.7 and 6.4L V8’s is substantial.
