TSS doesn't like rain

So twice now I've noticed that the TSS on my 2021 ORP has issues in moderate-to-heavy rain. The first time was in a heavy rain storm when the adaptive cruise control (which I assume uses the same sensor on the front?) at first just shut off in the rain and then later came back on and got totally confused about how much space there was between us and the car in front. It thought there was more and began to accelerate until I shut it off. The second time was in a moderate rain a few days ago when I'd get the yellow warning icon and then the orange icon indicating that the collision avoidance sensor was offline. In both cases I guess there was too much water that accumulated on/in/around the sensor that jonesed its readings. Both of these events were on interstates. Anyone else experience this?

This is true and sometimes the emergency braking disables and then reenables itself too when it rains really hard.
IMHO cruise control in the rain is a bad idea anyhow.

Same experience here. I also had a wet leaf get stuck to mine the other day and it didn't like that much either. I don't tend to use cruise control much at all but have come to accept some sort of dash light when it rains very heavily.

It will be a continuous issue. My wife's Tacoma has it all the time (the reason I grabbed a '19 ORP instead of a '20), however there is a recall/replace order on the front sensor of her truck. That may end up being the way they go with the 4Runner as well.

I’ve had 5-6 cars from Honda, BMW, Toyota, and Nissan with front laser/radar sensors and they all do this in rain and snow. Every one kicked off when it was supposed to, and came back on like it was supposed to. I’m not sure how people can expect them to see through obstructions and refracting water, but they all seemed to work as well as I could hope. I say this as a EE with relatively high expectations, I would think.

The front sensor is picking up the rain. You can turn off the radar sensing cruise control and just use standard control to get around this issue and also turn off collision avoidance.

With that said, I would not recommend using cruise control in the rain or on surfaces with standing water, ever.
