So let’s dissect this a little further:
1.) Happens 2-5 times every 30 minutes
2.) NEVER happened on a call
Funny, hmm.
Phones have two different Bluetooth profiles for hands free calls and for Bluetooth audio. Calls use the Hands-Free profile while music (stereo) uses A2DP. Only one of these profiles has a bug, and it appears to be the A2DP.
A.) Does anyone else’s phone drop in the same manner or frequency when connected to your 4Runner?
B.) Does your phone drop connection connected to any other device for MUSIC? (Headphones, Bluetooth speaker, other car?)
Whether or not you isolate the issue with the above steps, or it seems like some anomaly that occurs with ONLY your phone AND your 4Runner specifically, I can go into detail if you are up for a bit of background.
Every android phone is different. Google makes the base Android system (referred to as AOSP or “naked” android) and manufacturers put their own touches on the appearance (such as Samsung with their TouchWiz interface).
What’s also unique to each phone make and model is certain files in each firmware update, for the antennas and wireless radios, called the “baseband”. This influences how the cellular radios, WiFi, and Bluetooth all work, or don’t.
There seems to be enough concern about the Samsung S10’s bluetooth performance that several articles have been written about it… I would start with the first link and see if that relatively simple suggestion fixes it. Users are reporting that battery management kills Bluetooth but if you disable it for the specific music app you’re using, it won’t disconnect.
