Fox coilovers

Can anyone share their experiences or opinions about Fox 2.0 IFP Series Front Shocks? Or the 2.5 version? I don't have any 4x4 experience with Fox but I like their mountain bike shocks lol.

I tried 5 times to search Fox and each time it said Zero Results. I would find that pretty shocking if that's really true.

I had Fox 2.5s on my Tacoma and they were not good. They dampening was too soft and And lift resulted in noise at full droop.

I ordered King 2.5 for the Runner.

How was the ride on the road? I can live with soft dampening because the 4Runner will be driven by my wife to and from work, then I drive it the rest of the time. She doesn't want a super rugged ride on the highway and I don't do any major 4x4 stuff so mostly road travel with just occasional 4x4 stuff.

I really want adjustable coilovers 0-2" so I'm researching them as I find them.

It was too soft. The truck would float and bounce on certain sections of the highway.

i had the opposite experience. kings are too soft, the fox really shined off road but were stiff on road. ride quality is so subjective

the fox 2.0's are a really good shock for the money IMHO.

Bilstein 6112 and fox 2.0 rear is also solid especially a mostly highway driver. thats how my wife's was setup for a few years and she loved it. we have moved on to kings

Ive had Kings on both my 4th and 5th Gens. The ride has been good in most situations, especially off road where I wanted.

The ride is definitely subjective with all high dollar shocks.
In doing my research over the years, I learned about spring rates and how the shocks are tuned. My 5th gen has 600 lb springs w a heavy bumper and winch, extra battery and heavy cable, compressor, and lights. Some people are more concerned w ride height and go w 650 or 700 lb springs, but I'm happy where mine sits.

The biggest surprise for me was nitrogen pressure. I built my own rig for doing this and was finding out that the pressures weren't up to the levels they need to be.
Kings are designed to be @150 psi. Once I got this dialed in I was even more impressed with how much abuse these shocks can handle.

One thing I've read from the Tacoma guys is that Kings dont hold up as well as Fox in the salt belt states. Elka being produced in Canada may give them an advantage in this regard.

Fox and their dual speed control may give a better ride in rough slow speed conditions such as wash board and pot hole dirt roads or city streets up north where the snow and ice wreak havoc on pavement and concrete. My Kings arent great in this regard but I deal with it, and you can run softer tires or lower air pressures if you wanted. My E rated Coopers are a lot stiffer than my C rated BFGs.

Overall, my biggest recommendation is go w a reputable dealer and have your shocks tuned properly for how your truck will be built out.

For most people a good Bilstein suspension gives the performance and durability they want on a budget that is tolerable.

Fox LT here. Love it and when it’s running it just floats man. Just get the speed adjustable ones I’ve never had a problem with them

I have fox 2.5.

Generally I like them a lot. Fox dampening is very progressive. So soft at lower speeds and gives you all the dampening at once when you start pushing harder. I like it combined with KDSS.

I would choose a softer spring rate if I designed them. More like King. 550ish.

Back to back - I prefer icon valving a little better than King or fox. But they're all reasonably close. The reality is that you can just choose your favorite color. The differences are in the fringes.

The 4R only has about 8" of travel. So you'll never overheat or over work them. It's just not really possible with the travel we have.

I'd consider buying from accutune. They will custom valve then for free for whatever ride you want.

Unpopular opinion: if I were buying now - I'd probably go with TRD pro takeoffs. I think they're the best mix of performance and value. Best overall off the shelf are probably the Bilstein 8100s. But apparently they're pretty hard to tune.

Having fox 2.5 with dcs

I would agree with jetboy, the fox pro set up is cost effective if you can score a take off deal

That being said, from experience mine fox 2.5 dsc were picked for a 2017 pro, cost was able to be off set by selling the TRD bilstien pro take offs. At the time I think the only big baller players were fox or kings, now there are a few more with OMU and ELKA.

Accutune was great and valved them at time of purchase for the set up and projected weight, but the fox 2.5 will have to probably revalved again when it’s time for the rebuild since static weight has changed with front and rear bumpers, the numbers were not rite since aluminum was purchased over steel based on daily use. Plus at the time the 2.5 that were installed tundra rear bodies were used for a little more down travel, again accutune worked magic by extending the hose, clocking the resi and valving, this was the work around at the time in 2017.

Also my 3rd gen and 1st gen had kings, so maybe I was biased to try something else as well. Do I notice I difference, maybe less caddy feel and a bit more responsive, but that can be due to accutune and the actual valving and tuning they did vs the 2 set of kings prior were back yard garage installed and basic road tune based on messing around with the adjustors and height.

But get what you want, what you can afford and what you can live with… it’s your ride build it for yourself and what you want to do with it.

One follow up thought - ride height significantly effects ride quality. The higher you go the harsher it gets. It's inherent in the geometry. Lower you set it up the better it will ride. It's a trade off for ground clearance. With my fox setup it's very noticeable between 1" and 3" heights. 1" being much nicer ride.

Tuned by TRD means an email was sent to Fox and most owners yank them off anyway. They're no good with off the shelf valving like I bought them. Maybe I needed the pro bro tuning email.

Lmao! Ain't that the truth! I also had 2.5 Foxes and considered them junk. I can't say the same about the Fox DCS though. Went Kings and never looked back for the Tacoma and 4runner.
