Velox Offroad: Gullwing windows

So my vehicle is a smash and grab thief magnet, so in the latest attempt, thieves decided to break into the quarter panel windows to get in, only to figure out that I have the rago panels on the otherside....Fcking dumbasses.

Due to our socialist government, there is a backlog of broken windows. Literally, if i go through insurance, I have to wait 4 weeks to replace the window, or if I am willing to pay out of pocket at the tune of 800 cash, I can get it replaced right away through backdoor channels...Fcking retarded if you ask me.

Anyways, I figured I'd try out these gullwing windows, one less Fcking window for the thieves to break.

Anyways, Velox sells these quarter panel windows, and they are very expensive, but they are legit.

1. They have a heavy duty aluminum frame and door. Very secure. It would be hard to break the latch if someone tried to crow bar it since the latch is high up in the window frame. The frame itself is bolted down. You gonna have to break out that drill baby.

2 On the frame, they use a foam gasket, and on the window they use heavy duty automotive window gasket

3. installation was straight forward and pretty easy except for removing the OEM window gasket/weather stripping. HUGE PAIN IN THE REAR END. it took me about 5 hours by myself due to the stupid toyota weather stripping. Glass will get everywhere, and will shred your skin, so wear PPE.

4. It really is a 2 person job. You can do it by yourself for most of the steps, until the part that requires you to drill and to mount the window. Holding it in place, and drilling is not an easy thing to do, and neither is trying to secure the window while playing with tiny nuts, bolts, and washer.. I'm sure more capable people can do it, but my peasant butt couldnt do it.

5. daily usefulness. If my window wasn't destroyed by thieves, and I didn't already have the rago modular panels installed. I probably wouldn't get these. I can't see myself using these on a daily basis, but they are good for camping stuff or stuff you don't use on a daily basis (first aid kit, tire patch kit, staun deflaters, etc). I probably won't get the passenger side, unless thieves break into that side first, or they come out with a thick plexiglass version so i can still see out of the passenger window when lane changing/parking etc.

6. Customer service: no complaints. They state they have a 4 week lead time on their website, but i got it in 2 weeks.. Came with no instructions, but they do have a very useful step by step youtube video.

7. I'm probably going to add additional weather sealant for my own piece of mind.

8. Lot of cool patches and stickers hahaha....

Looks great. I’ve taken a peak at these. May go for it in the future when I get a swing out bumper so I can access things with my hitch mounted bike rack.

......They state they have a 4 week lead time on their website....
So option 1: wait 4 weeks, $0 replacement

Option 2: wait zero weeks, $800 replacement

Option 3: wait 4 weeks (predicted) AND pay out of pocket...

I’m not sure what style of government has to do with options that predict to take the same time...

Either way, pretty cool set up. Seen some FJ’s with stuff on quarter window like this and always wondered. Thanks for sharing.

Are other windows less expensive to replace in your country, because a thief is just going to smash a different one now. Better get them on order ASAP!

The plus side is now you can access the backside of the rago rack. You could probably fit a small first aid kit or a small fire extinguisher there.

Looks nice. Really interested in this. Do you think this would weigh more than the factory glass?

If you were to go w/ this option, the new worry would be a dumbass tweaker trying to pry it open from the bottom, damaging the body panel.

Can't ****ing win in these cities where these shitbags are a protected class

Welcome to the big city, hayseed. Don't leave expensive things visible in your car.

No mods necessary for that solution.

No sheet Sherlock, but tweakers aren't professional thieves. They trying to make 20 dollars out of 50 cents they find, which means they will break into your vehicle in HOPE of finding something. They didn't break into it because they saw something valuable. They broke into it, because your vehicle was the first one they saw, or they tested your alarm and it didn't trigger a warning, or you parked under a tree that they were getting high under. Not uncommon to wake up to find every vehicle in the parking lot have shattered windows or all the cars with missing or half torn off front license plates, or missing spare tires. Basically, they broke into your car, because by chance, your vehicle was parked in front of them the moment they realized they aint got no money for their next fix.

They don't care if you have video camera's or if they go to jail. I"ve chased away 3 of them so far. They won't even leave if you threaten to call the cops. Only reason they left, is i threatened to hold them at gunpoint if they don't leave by the time i come back with my gun.

Only solution is to move to the burbs... which is not something i can do.

Nope, but its turning into san francisco. i had to chase these shitbirds away.

Dood in the Jeep parked next to me, and then proceeded to break my window and steal my front license plate. I caught him as i was walking my dog. Told him I'm going to grab my gun..he turned around and jumped into his jeep. Cops didn't do shit. Can't do shit with a cell phone but take shitty pictures.

The other pics are tweakers at 6am. I came home at 4am and told them to leave. Came out at 6am, told them to leave again, they just ignored me this time. Its hard to see, but in the pics, they are actually in the vehicles. Notice, they don't give a Fuk if they are trespassing, because they know the cops won't come out. Told them, if they don't leave by the time i come back, i will hold them at gun point until the cops arrive, so they finally left.

Also this is how they break into your vehicle. They park next to you, pretending to be chilling at 4am in the parking lot (or ride their stolen bicycle around in circles, or their skateboard all night long), as they are hanging out there, they will break into every vehicle there.

Naw, they tweakers, the MO around here is they break windows. They hang out in the parking lot and they break windows one by one until they get spooked.

They figured out, most alarms don't have window breaking sensors or impact sensors, only "door open" sensors.

Every once in a while, they try to steal motorcycles, or your car.

I can't really say, my glass was shattered into a billion pieces but was held together by window tint and duck tape. Moment i tried to remove the glass, it completely shattered.

I think the gullwing windows are heavier, but not by much. Its very light and rigid. It is very well constructed (laser cut, powder coated, high quality latch, and stainless steel hardware) so you are definitely paying for the quality, but it is good quality.

Is it worth the money they are charging? Yes, the quality is there.

Is it really necessary? um......lol.

I try to keep it positive, so I used this as an opportunity to upgrade:

1. New alarm system w/ 2 way paging and cellular notification
2. gullwing windows.
3. rebuilt front suspension and drivetrain (left vehicle at mechanics for last 2 weeks until i can get the window repaired, safer on his lot than where i live)...figure id how some business his way in return for the favor.

Hopefully, i'll be out of there in 15 months.
