This is my biggest fear with the KO2's. I keep coming back to the Toyo or Wildpeaks because of this.

UPDATE:

I went with the Trail Terrain. Honestly, I'm not even sure why, other than maybe Costco could source them more quickly than any of the other options. And we had a slow leak, so this needed to be done.

They're ridiculously cheap at Costco. I think it was somewhere around $700 out the door. They refunded the installation because they cocked it up so that saved me about $80.

How do you like them so far?

I'm getting the same tires put on tomorrow. Only thing that scares me about them is the closed shoulders but I read somewhere that most water is evacuated thorough the vertical grooves. Not sure about snow since I live in the snow belt. Guess we'll see. I got them cause of the full sipes and light weight.

Post some pics when you get them installed, and let us know how they balanced out and ride. I'm going to be needing tires soon and saw those.

The Nitto Recons are only made in 20,22 or 24 inch now, and only in E or F load rating but they do say "additional sizes coming soon"

I was looking into them and went with the 285/70/17 Ridge Grapplers in SL load range at $235 a piece at Discount Tire ..........for now. All 3 of my trucks can run the same size wheel and tire which means I can mix it up.

Sticking with around 33's until I regear....learned that lesson of going too big of tires, before regearing on my last 5th build. On the highway and the slightest grade or windy and the transmission will drive you nuts going from 4th to 5th so have to drive in 4th and then gas mileage is really, really bad.

Selling this van to purchase a 4Runner, but thought I’d chime in on a nice set of tires. These are maxxis razr AT tires. Not sure if they’ve been mentioned on this thread yet. They’ve been amazing!

No pics yet. I'll snap some tomorrow.

I have a Limited so went from the 20" rims and stock geolanders to 17" FN six shooters with the 265/70r17 trail terrains.

No rubbing with the 0 offset wheels! The trail terrains have a more round profile than square.

Steering feels lighter. Might be because of the offset or maybe cause the wheel/tire combo is much lighter.

I'm probably sitting at about 59lbs per corner compared to 74-75ish with the limited wheels.

Accelerarion improved due to cutting about 15 lbs per corner. I'm thinking it makes a bigger difference for me because of the AWD.

Shifting is faster and less jerky prob due to the weight savings again.

Road noise is slightly louder than stock.

Handling is about the same with a nod to stickiness of the rubber going to BFGs.

Discount tire did a good job balancing them. No shimmies or shakes even going 70 on the highway.

You got pics with the six shooters? I’m thinking of running them with 285 Toyo AT3s once my Wildpeaks wear out.

Frozen...

Would love some more info on the new Trail-Terrain impressions from you guys. Stuck between those, Yoko Geolander G015, and Falken Wildpeaks. Primarily interested in mpg, road noise, and grip on dirt. Lots of traveling sales calls w speaker phone makes road noise sadly important :-(

I am also interested in a quiet AT in a stock size. My new to me SR5 has new GeoDrive tires LT265x70/17 E installed by dealer and I think they just look like a highway tire, can't find any info on them.

Road noise is slightly louder than my stock geolanders. I can also "feel" the tread blocks at times when traveling at slow speeds, but this is coming from me getting used to the smooth factory tires most likely.

I've also had Cooper at3 4s and falken wild peaks on a previous 5th gen 4runner with the factory trail wheels.

The coopers were slightly quieter than the trail terrains, but louder than the factory Dunlop that came with the sr5 rims. Less "hum" than the trail terrains more like a louder highway tire would sound.

The falken wild peaks were the loudest of my tires. Noticeable but not annoying hum at highway speeds. Couldn't feel the treads at low speed like I can the trail terrains, but they were E-rated and I ran them at 44 psi.

Always so interested as so many say the wild peaks have virtually no road noise but they certainly look the most aggressive and I have no idea what those folks are comparing it to. SUPER APPRECIATED that you have experience with all of them and took the time.

So if you had to rank by noise (least to most):
Hway Tire > Geolandar G015 > Cooper AT3 > Trail Terrain > Wild Peak?

The Geolanders are the G96B model.

There's definitely a hum to the wild peaks when compared to stock.. not mud terrain hum territory but definitely present. I've had km3 mud terrains on a tacoma before too and those were the definition of highway hum. The wild peaks don't reach those levels and are probably quiet to those who are used to running full out mud terrains.

265/70r17 Dunlops = 245/60r20 Geolander G96 > 265/70r17 Cooper AT3 > 265/70r17 Trail Terrain > 255/80r17 Wild Peak

I would have bought the Cooper at3 4s again cause they plain worked for noise, ride quality, and snow but they look a little boring compared to the Trail Terrains and I'm always a sucker for trying new things.

Here are some pics of my new FN six shooters and 265/70r17 Trail Terrains. Loving the stance of the wheels and non-plain looking sidewalls of the new tires.

The reasons I went with the Trail Terrains:

Light weight: listed as 38 lbs on BFG website for 265/70r17

Full depth sipes: I'm not into losing snow performance after 3/32nds or 4/32nds of the tread wears off. I live in the upper Midwest.

Mountain snowflake rated: Taken with a grain of salt but it gives me a little more confidence in the tires knowing the manufacturer gave enough rats ass to get them tested.

Mall crawler sidewall: I don't offroad much (Maybe once a year) but I find regular all season sidewalls too boring.

Cost: Were about $30-40 cheaper per tire then the other choices I was considering (michelin defender mainly but back to the sidewall thing on those)
