The reasons I went with the Trail Terrains:

Light weight: listed as 38 lbs on BFG website for 265/70r17

Full depth sipes: I'm not into losing snow performance after 3/32nds or 4/32nds of the tread wears off. I live in the upper Midwest.

Mountain snowflake rated: Taken with a grain of salt but it gives me a little more confidence in the tires knowing the manufacturer gave enough rats ass to get them tested.

Mall crawler sidewall: I don't offroad much (Maybe once a year) but I find regular all season sidewalls too boring.

Cost: Were about $30-40 cheaper per tire then the other choices I was considering (michelin defender mainly but back to the sidewall thing on those)

Looks good, both the wheels and tires. I really am considering these now though I think I will do the white lettering out. I believe I am pretty much in the same boat as you in terms of what kind of tire I want and these seem to fit the bill.

I also posted in the tire section but today I ordered the Cooper AT3 4s in stock 265/70-17 size and will probably get on Thursday. I'll try to remember to report back here but if I say they're quiet temper that with the knowledge that I have hearing loss from VietNam.

great looking tire.. i just slapped on Advantage TA sport LT mall crawler tires and theyve been pretty good so far. Confident in corners once you get used to the sidewall squish. Good dry traction and good wet traction.

I wish the trail TA was an option in august when i got these new tires. I would've definitely gone w/ these.

The Maxxis Razr AT's are on my short list! There are some great reviews on these from some of the Australia/New Zealand overland folks who've been running them for a while. They're kind of hard to find locally (4WheelParts has them, as does SimpleTire, etc.) but specs seem good, and they've got a 50k mile treadwear warranty in the LT sizes (60k for P-Metric).

just bought 5 of these and had them mounted last week. I run a dedicated winter setup though since it gets well below freezing up here. they are michelins as well (x-ice 2 or 3) which I run on every vehicle. I have a set of basically brand new dueler H/Ts on the factory 20s now that I don't know what to do with, sensors and all, including the spare. I found the duelers always rode firm on the 20" so I have a 17" set up for both my winter and summer rims. never had an issue with Michelin tires, ever and the 17" rim and 265/70/17 tire profile is much more comfortable

I tend to find myself looking at the weight of the tires a lot. There is such a huge difference between 47lb and 62lb tire on each corner! This is why I keep going back to the Toyo AT3 and the Nitto RG tires…

I just can’t seem to get my head around running super heavy tires for every day use, with the occasional off-road adventure…

They're ridiculously cheap at Costco. I think it was somewhere around $700 out the door. They refunded the installation because they cocked it up so that saved me about $80.
Just wanted to post an update. They probably have 6-7K miles on them by now. There was the typical 68mph wobble that was there before the tires, and it's still there. Road noise is fine, wet traction seems fine. They haven't had much off-pavement stuff, but they've handled it fine.

I'd say they were a great value at that price point.

Get the MICHELIN LTX-AT2 in LT (Light Truck).

They are absolutely quiet on the road and very good for light to medium offroading. I keep them at 35 psi and life is good.

I don't know about you guys, but I'll spend hours pouring over reviews and days pondering this decision. It's kind of ridiculous and paralyzing.
How about the B.F. Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A. P rated tire, but pretty rugged. They were the OEM tire that came on my 2002 Tacoma TRD 4x4 when I bought it new and gave me over 30k miles of a high percentage of off road and on rocky and technical trails. Sliced and diced but no loss of air and no flats. I replaced them with BFG All Terrain T/A’s, which I also run on my T4R.

For you folks that got BFG Trail Terrains, any updates? Likes or dislikes? I'm still kinda leaning towards them but haven't decided yet.
