2014 Trail Still "Runs Great" at 300,000 Miles with Minimal Maintenance

This is not my vehicle. It's interesting how little maintenance has been done and it supposedly "runs great". I prefer shorter fluid change intervals which doesn't add much to the cost of ownership.

Original transmission fluid ... no slipping.
Differential fluid replaced twice ... no grinding.
10,000 mile oil change interval at Toyota.
Original suspension and bushings.
"... would be nice if front dampers were a little firmer."
Alternator replaced ~250,000.
Replace windshield one time.
Still gets 18-21 MPG at 310,000 miles.
$41,000 spent on fuel and he hopes 6th gen Trail will be a hybrid with 35+ MPG.

... see many more details here ‘14 4Runner Trail: 300,000 Mile Review | Toyota Nation Forum

That's a perfect example of a 'great vehicle and an indifferent owner. The poor fellow or gal that will buy this'truck when this guy let's go would have to deal with the consequences of neglect.

35+ MPG... hybrids don't work that way. Freeway mileage will be about the same unless they make it smaller and more aerodynamic. Only real improvement is with a more efficient powertrain, and hybrid doesn't really contribute there. Around town, like to the store in stop and go is where a hybrid can help, but aero drag and drivetrain efficiency for a combustion engine still rule freeway MPGs.

The only rust of any real consequence is the skidplate. Easily replaced.

I'd say it's a great example of how durable these are, even neglected in States with heavy Salt use.

Cool. Love to see these posts.
Original ATF and says he tows too?
Says he uses Michelin MTX tires but the pic shows Michelin LTX Defenders. Keeping to p-rated tires helps with fuel economy and maybe easier on the suspension?

Anything will last a long time if you are cruising highways and babying it. Show me a worked 5th gen that is actually used offroad that has lasted that long with minimal maintenance and Ill be impressed.

Maybe one day people will understand that transmission oil needs to be serviced. It gets sheared down and contaminated just like engine oil. Quick lube places don't push for transmission oil changes due to the time/cost/complexity.

"Lifetime" has internal fine print associated with it, for some manufacturers it is defined as 105k miles.
