Resale Value

For anyone's interest, I sold to a local dealership a 2019 TRD Off-Road Premium with 60,000 miles, (moon-roof and steps are the only additions) in need of tires and brakes for $38,000, which is a little more than I paid new. All internet dealers, Vroom, Carmax, ect offers were less.

As a side note, cleaning the truck up for the sale I noticed rust bubbling on lower seam of door, under the plastic trim covering the sill of the door entry, and around the rear license plate screw holes, which is odd because I used plastic screws. This after the truck was Waxoyl from new and two Upstate New York winters.

I found rust on my screw holes too when I swapped bumpers. Luckily I was able to get them to move with some force. Another season and the screws would have been rusted in. Now I apply grease to the screw and also use a sealing washer behind the head of the screw to prevent any moisture from going into the threaded insert.
Still need to get the bubbling repaired at a body shop.

Rust bubbling on my screw holes as well. I sanded it and used some touch up paint and replaced with stainless steel screws. 2019 Pro here.

Yeah, I lived in Chicago for many years and it was bad. Radiator supports would sneak up and rust through on you and just about every car had 'weak spots'. Hondas had the Honda cancer of the rear wheel well, Nissans and their rusty rad supports, etc. Keeping nice cars was a problem; they had to be taken off the road entirely in the winter. I go back there to see family and my jaw drops at the swiss cheese of some cars I see -- literal holes in the door panels and such.

When I moved to TX I had a TJ Rubicon. I was dealing with some death wobble issues and brought it to a shop. The dude looked under and immediately was amazed at how much rust there was underneath. Granted it was mostly surface rust, but it looked terrible to someone from the south.

Nissan has entire subframes on their SUVs just rust into pieces and literally cause people to have catastrophic crashes. Murano specifically.

I thought GM truck body rust was bad until I owned a Murano. It’s sad that owners are digging around for subframes in junkyards. Imagine the cost of just getting that part out of the yard. Lotta work.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. All the memories are surfacing now. I bought a nice garage-kept LS2 GTO back in 2009. Parked it in the garage for the winter and bought a 94 Integra. Trunk floor was non-existent. Could not use it as it was a big hole. Then I flipped that and got a 94 XJ. Holes under dead pedal and could see the road. But, both were pretty reliable and got me through the winter as beaters.

Fun times.

I wish dealers in my area would offer better than Carvana/vroom. Right now I am debating selling my 19 TRD ORP. It only has 4200 miles. Dealers are offering about 39k for it, but carvana is offering 44. I am leery to sell online ,would much rather do it in person, but they are low balling.

Why did you sell yours?

For me I have a few vehicles I use and I couldn't pass on a deal like this. And while its been a reliable truck I can't help but notice the corrosion in just two winters, in comparison I have a 07 Land Rover LR3 that's spent its life in New York with no undercoating that has the same amount of rust as the Toyota. However, were I live they use sand and salt, so as the chassis paint gets chipped away from the sand it then gets a nice helping of salt to accelerate the corrosion process. Oh how I miss the West.

In my area, they throw sand in the residential areas, and salt on the main roads, so its total chaos during the winter months. I made sure to get it oil sprayed right off the lot, so we'll see what that does. I will also grease up the plate bolts as well.

That's a really good sale value IMO! I have a 15 Trail Premium w/KDSS and 65k miles. I looked at a Tundra and the trade in offer was about $30k. I thought that was pretty decent. Mine is a little more "abused" than yours.- primarily some rock rash on the rear bumper cover and some other minor imperfections and has fox suspension and a winch. But I decided to wait for the next gen Tundra. Almost said yes though at $30k trade in. If they had come up to $32k I would have jumped. At $38k - I wouldn't have thought twice. That's more than I paid in 2015.

I went and looked at a 17 Tacoma double cab TRD a few weeks ago at the local dealer. Nice truck but it was the same price it was when it was new. And they only offered me $15.5 for mine which is an 11 but it's MINT and has 95k on it. Granted it's lifted with aftermarket wheels/tires and a winch but it's really really nice. I wasn't as impressed with the truck as I thought I would be (kind of a slug) so I thanked them for their time and I have been looking at utility trailers instead. I do miss having a tacoma but quite often I have kids and dogs in my rig and a double cab would be tight.
