What are you running? What do you wish you did differently?

I am circling around the suspension set-up for the Lun4R build and I am curious about what you guys who have the long travel think and what mistakes/companies to avoid.

Has anyone tried to run the Fiberglass fender flares on a 20-21? I dont see any options available for the 20+ Is there a difference in fender design that I need to know?

Just be ready to maintain it and do it right. Mid travel is honestly not a bad option for most people. I have it because I fly through sand but just make sure you don’t blow off maintenance. People don’t grease or blast the heims and lose it when bushings blow out. I would say for the most part everyone that builds them is pretty reputable. Also when it comes to putting it on, try and do it yourself. You can rent every tool you need and it will help you get to know the pieces and where they go/ how they should look. It’s fairly straightforward. I don’t have flares but they are being color matched as I type this so I’ll let you know but the ones you posted will work with current year. If you end up going that route you might want to order coilovers now rather than later. I had custom coils built in a shorter time frame than if I were to buy them and wait.

x2 on the 8" shock comment.

otherwise camburg is about to release a +2 kit that retains OEM stroke coilovers. it's going to leverage the shock a bit more but the upside is you dont need to re purchase shocks. they have some details on their site under the tacoma tab for "trail series long travel" or something like that.

I had no idea. I lazily took another look at TC options yesterday and was like "LOL, totally not worth the total cost."

If Camburg does pull this off nicely, then it could be an interesting option down the road.

I am still not sold on any LT on a DD/general purpose 4R due to the maintenance though and mine will be that for a while longer.

Can’t stress this enough man it’s like 56 weeks right now. I’m buying 4.5” to replace my 2” and it’s going to require a long wait

I have all of the tools and experience to do it myself. You answered my questions. The 4r is a daily driver only as often as I want it to be, the build is supposed to be over the top but I would really like to have the ability to travel at higher speeds in various off-road terrain sand being the primary target. Everything on the build requires some maintenance. The coils are almost a year out if I go with King's which seems pretty standard for the long travel set ups. I am thinking the 3.5+ expedition kit from total chaos.

How often are you regreasing?

I came across the camburg setup in my research. I would like to go 3.5+ LT with the longer coils, the maintenance isn't terrible in comparison to some of the other vehicle ventures I have found myself in. Practical went out the window a long time ago on this build anyway

Like once a month. It doesn’t require “a lot” of maintenance like some people always say it’s just normal looking after it stuff. Be ready to never stop spending money and time on it. Also when it comes to running you’re going to want a secondary shock up front I promise you that. So it make sense to buy it as a pair so you can have the tuned together. Accutune does a great job if you tell them exactly what you’re doing with it. The rear is where I spent a lot of time as opposed to the front and finally have it in a great setup that is “comparable”to my actual prerunner but it took a lot of time so I would be thinking about that as well. I’m adding a fuel cell into it this weekend because the lean and At this point why not. I think it’s definitely worth it and fun to mess around with if you’re into that kind of thing.

We made it to talking about the rear LT stuff... I love this.

I have not been able to find much talking about the rear suspension. What's your set up with that, also completely agree the 2nd shock with the hoop is a must.

I have a Fox tundra 2.5 shock tuned for desert running and fox IFP bumps made for the raptor that I had tuned for my 4Runner and we messed around with nitrogen fill on it for awhile but finally came to a good bump. I would say the most important thing we did was all the work that went into tuning everything. I think any setup can work if you get the right people to move it along. The bumps are relatively more expensive then normal bumps from fox/king but the technology in them is amazing and really helps with everything. They feel a lot smoother than my kings on my other vehicle. Icon links but I don’t think that makes a huge difference. The rear spring I have is just a metal tech. It’s still a work in progress but I am very happy with where it’s at. It currently handles jumps and really rough terrain at high 50+mph. I plan on cutting through the frame and welding a mount above the frame for another 1.5-2” of up travel without getting into the body but that’s getting into the weeds on small things you can do.

they are packaging it with an optional hydraulic bump stop using their "slapper arm" setup. they use it on other kits as well.

Hi there! Unfortunately, I don't have much knowledge about suspension set-ups for vehicles, but I'm sure there are many enthusiasts out there who can offer their advice and experience.

As for me, I'm not running anything at the moment, but I wish I had started running earlier in life. How about you?
