Is the amber or yellow fog light film worth putting over the OEM fog lights to help in falling snow or heavy fog ?

Researching I have read that the OEM halogen fog lights put out 5850 candela, which is pretty decent.

If the yellow film is not worth it, I am going to buy the Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro led replacement pods.

Just looking to save some money if the film will make a difference.

Would also like to know - Morimoto sells both white and amber fogs, but also sells a yellow film separately.

Curious if white LED + amber film is even noticeable.

Lamin-X fogs are about $17. Just buy them and see if you like the performance.

For what it’s worth, I do like the performance. Yellow light cuts better than white.

If you really want the best performance, just go with the Diode Dynamics SS3 fogs. They come in a true selective yellow color which the films pasted onto a clear fog do not give you. Why is that important? See the following:

As for the DD SS3 fogs, the Pro is a good choice, but be careful. It has more power than the Sport, but less than the Max, More importantly though, the horizontal beam is not as well controlled as the Sport or Max.

What does that mean? The beam pattern is taller and thus there is more up light - which an bother oncoming drivers. Even with proper aiming, the Pro is kind of tough to run on the street where the Sport and surprisingly the Max - with proper aiming - work quite well. I know because I went from the Pro to the Max.

I have 2021 fogs, and the filtered light is blinding.

If you have halogens, you may not want films.

Thanks for the info on the beam pattern. I have seen & read about that on DD's website. Since I am more concerned with fog light usage for snow & fog, you make a valid point about the taller beam height. Decisions, decisions !!!

I have the Lumin-X on the 4Runner and they are fine. DID NOT fit on the wife's RAV4 (tried twice!)

Yellow fog lamp options

Doesn’t the DD fog light kit come with replaceable lenses for clear or yellow? That would be beneficial for seasonal fog/snow usage.

I just thought about something.

LEDs are so strongly colored that we are instructed to make different bulb color choices, treating the fixture as if the lens color doesn’t even exist, vs halogens when putting them behind colored lenses.

You can put a white halogen behind any color lens, but must put a red LED behind a red lens for brake lights, else a white LED would look pink.

After giving this some consideration, I feel like colored lenses may be as effective as the blue tinted halogens that were sold as “pure white” on AutoZone shelves across the country

They have replaceable lenses, but you have to be careful. The "clear" lights sometimes use different emitters than the selective yellow lights. And DD goes to great lengths to match emitters with correctly colored lenses to end up with the proper beam color. So simply swapping lenses can give you some pretty weird colors. That's why ordering the correct color lights for your particular use is fairly important.

Actually, the yellow color is just a thin coating of real gold.

I put yellow H16 PIAA bulbs in and clear film to protect from rocks. The yellow light is great in snow and ice fog, but not great since you cannot turn off the white headlights and run only yellow fogs.

I put the Lamin-X yellow film on my fogs... I think it does wonder driving down from ski resorts in blizzards at night in the winter.... Especially since it was cheap to do and took all of 10 min to install...

And, very importantly, because it is the OEM fog lights, you don't get every other driver heading opposite to you blasting thier brights in your face because most fancy aftermarket fogs are really floodlights...

I did not know these exist... OSRAM's other bulbs are great... this could be a great solution as well...
