Dual battery set up? No room in engine bay.

I need to do a dual battery setup in the Lun4r build... but I'm out of engine bay space, Procharger install requires battery relocation to the space where you would mount the 2nd battery. Has anyone done a 2nd battery somewhere else in the cab? Interested in ideas and thoughts...

Rear Dual Battery Set-Up on 5th Gen 4Runner, 4Runner Dual Battery

Im personally running a "power station" battery in the rear to power my fridge and electronics. Its works and can dual charge off of the 12v & 120v the 4runner puts out in the trunk.

Amazon.com : Portable Power Station 622Wh, 600W Solar Power Generator with PD 100W Quick Charge and 2 110V Pure Sine Wave AC Outlets, Backup Lithium Battery for Outdoor Use Camping RV Emergency Travel (Black) : Patio, Lawn & Garden

BOL.

Not sure if the Procharger took up space in the passenger front corner, but Shockworks does a reloacation kit to that spot for a secondary battery. I've looked at it and it has some other relocation issues that may not work for you 100%, but this might be a potential option.

Dual Battery Kit for 2010-2014 FJ Cruiser and 5th Generation 4Runner

I'm also in the Portland area - hope to see your rig on the road.

The Procharger install moves the battery to the passenger front. So the space is taken by the primary battery.

What about the space in the passenger rear corner?

It’s no different than running a dual battery in the engine compartment. You’ll just need to find a place for the 2nd battery to live, whether in a storage compartment, drawer, etc. Then depending on how you want to manage that system, I personally would go with a dc-dc charger, and determine the right gauge wires and routing. Obviously, you want to have fuses or breakers, determine if you want to add solar, and other stuff but in general, it’s not too complicated IMO.

Or you can just have a portable battery in the back. Even simpler…

100% this, if I could do my dual battery project again I would have a DC-DC charger + Lithium Ion battery mounted in the back. A portable battery would probably work too but I like a more integrated system that can also power exterior lights, fridge, comm equipment and anything else I need.

Thanks for bringing this up. The huge benefit of running a battery in the rear is that you can run Lithium Ion. Yes, it’s more expensive than an AGM battery, but the pros outweigh the cons. Then again the the average camper doesn’t need that much capacity let alone dual batteries lol

i have this portable one. my main purpose is for my fridge and later as a jump starter if my main battery dies while on a road trip. I'm using an AGM battery for it rightnow and soon, i might replace the battery with lithium ion. my dc-dc charger can handle a lithium ion battery too. Wanderlost Overland installed their 2nd at passenger firewall. I have my 2nd at traditional passenger front with the Shrockworks relocation kit. I agree with the above, if I were doing it all over again I'd put 2nd battery somewhere in cab so that I could upgrade to a larger lithium battery. I'm too far the other direction to start over but def consider lithium in cab. Its a unique opportunity to massively upgrade your deep cycle amp hours.
