Bilstein 5100 Adjustable 0-2.5″ for limited

Hi everyone,

I just ordered the BILSTEIN 5100 ADJUSTABLE 0-2.5″ LIFT to replace my leaky Xreas. They are leaking.

I have couple questions

1- Do I really have to remove xreas tubes and pumps to install the Bilsteins?

2- Wil 5100 work with my current front and rear strut or I need to replace those as well?

Thank you

This shouldn't be that huge of a issue - you can just cut lines and leave some components like brackets, if you like. If it was me I would just remove the complete system. Most of the job is just like replacing shocks. The biggest possible issue will be how much the bolts might be rusted on. Doing this on a 5th Gen should be the same or easier then this video on a 4th Gen. Bilstein 5100 Shock Installation on a 4th Gen 4Runner - XREAS Delete/Removal - FULL Installation!! - YouTube

Dang, my old thread really needs to be made a sticky, because this gets asked so often.

Don't cut the lines. Removal is seriously simple. There are 6 check valves that you simply loosen and they separate with maybe a drip, then pull the components off. It is super easy and doesn't make a mess.

This video is the best out there so far and shows how to do it without a mess: X-REAS Suspension Delete From 4th Gen Toyota 4Runner - YouTube

With regard to your 5100 compatibility question, your front "strut" is shock/spring/tophat, you can just replace the shock with the 5100 and I would suggest using the "no spring compressor" method. In the rear you are replacing shock for shock. When I did mine on a 4th gen I replaced the springs too, with new FJ springs, but that's up to you.
