Opening liftgate/hatch from the inside.

When i camp/sleep out of my 4Runner i have to exit out of one of my back side doors because i cant open the liftgate/hatch from the inside.

Anyone make a mod to open from the inside? Any suggestions on how to do it?

You need the Ultimate Camping mod. Check out this long thread. I tweaked it for my install on post 184.
Ultimate camping mod- rear window up / down and hatch pop with ignition off!

Any interest in window up/ down / rear hatch pop wiring kits? Perfect for camping!

It is for 4th gen but same principle would apply.

Beat me to it!

Getting ready to install mine this weekend. Very excited for how much easier camping will be.

Yeah, it works really well.
Here’s another camping tip: I started carrying a soft horse-hair counter brush to dust off the hatch window and door frame. So you don’t pull in all the accumulated dirt and dust when opening the hatch door or window. .

Super good tip, thank you. Will add that to our camping gear.

If you want to do it yourself here’s some instructions. Unfortunately the photos don’t load anymore and it seems the poster is not very active here. But you can figure it out from the text.

In posts #164 and 165 of the link below there’s a page of the wiring diagram referenced in the text for the wires to tap. And where the W10 connector is located. Double check all this on your rig before proceeding.

Very helpful, and nice to see someone do it on a newer 5th gen.

Second everyone that this is a great mod. I had very quick responses (within minutes) when I was installing on a couple questions.
