Rust on tailgate door jam

Curious if you think this would be covered by the rust warranty? Seems like there is a spot rusting from the inside out and the lock is rusting.

You need new lock for sure. It is easy to replace. Mine had some rust and I replaced it before it got bad while was installing OEM+ speakers back there.

I would think that should be covered. But with today’s times and challenges I could see them saying no to save a dollar.
Good luck!

What year is it? How many kms on it? I tried to do a rust claim on a previous Lexus RX350, and it got denied because they said the rust has to be through the metal, basically a hole for them to fix it. Surface rust like that wouldn't be covered under the corrosion warranty, so hopefully you have better luck getting it fixed through warranty.

Unless it rusts completely through, Toyota won't cover it.

The only way to fix this effectively and cheaply is to replace the back hatch door with a high quality used one.

Given that you're in IL and they use a lot of salt during the winter months, I strongly suggest washing the truck, including the door jams, at least once a month. Salty slush sitting in the rear hatch door jam for a long period of time was the likely culprit here....or the rear hatch had been repainted and the repair facility did a poor job and the salty winters took care of the rest.

That is due mostly to the roll down window. Which is highly over rated. Salted roads are a crime against humanity.

If you can get them to check it out without a ticket might be best, if you want to go to another dealer/shop for a 2nd opinion?
