Oh - and the original question. I have the 285 spare mounted on the stock 17" steel rim but I am shopping for a Trail wheel so I can rotate it in. My last set of 265s I never used the spare and then struggled to get $50 for a brand new tire when I sold it. Would rather go ahead and use the spare and get and extra 20% on miles before I need to replace again.

I am part of an off-road recovery group and we are required to have a matching spare.

It sounds like get the 5th tire to match.

I definitely want the same size-ish tire no matter what rim it's on. The Limited has AWD with a limited slip center diff. I'm not sure what it would do with a speed difference between two wheels.

Good advice from all thanks!

I had a '99 Jeep with Quadra Drive, so had front and rear LSDs. I got into the habit quickly of rotating all 5 tires. Mismatched tires on an LSD would give you some issues...

The concern for me with the Limited would be that center diff, but I'm not sure how big of a rotational differential would be needed to give you problems.

I'd get a matching spare just to be on the safe side. Not sure rotating all 5 would be necessary, however.

Ideally my first preference is to find a full size spare I can include in rotation.

Second I’d at least want a matching tire on the spare.

Dead last would be a tire matching within 0.1” of circumference, but if it HAD to be skinnier to fit the steelie.

Before I took possession of my 21 TRDORP, I had the dealership do the 4 and I had retained my previous 5th....BTW, it was already a TRD wheel and a BFG AT KO2.

After the @ctnewman tire carrier install:

So, bite the bullet and do them all.

That’s such a nice rear spare tire carrier. I like the angle/height and the close proximity to the hatch.
