Victory4x4 Rear Diff Skid
Anyone else here using Victory 4x4 rear diff skid on their 5th Gen 4Runner ? I tried to install last night, but was having issues with the axle brackets not fitting right, and I felt the rear bolts on the axle brackets were riding a little too tight against the hard brake lines. When I was able to get all 4 nuts\bolts on for the axle brackets, I found that the front bracket that goes around the front of the third member, and the skid plate wasn't sitting flush onto each other. Starting becoming a real pain in the ass, so I aborted the install for now. Wondering if anyone else using this skid had issues installing. Thanks !
Damn video makes it look like it's so easy. Haha

Did you assemble it all with the nuts loose? Front upper bracket is in front of the lower one?
For the hard line, I see in the video they disconnected the bracket on the axle and had it out of the way. Are you saying it pushes against the axle bracket when you reinstall it? With hard line you can carefully bend it a little to modify its routing and/or slip some rubber hose around where it makes contact with the brackets.

Yup, I had the front assembled loosely and the way you described it with the top bracket in front of the lower. The rear axle bracket nut\bolt pretty much rests on the brake line on the driver side. I bent it out a little, but still doesn't seem right. I almost feel like the angle of the skid needs to be angled more down in the rear, and up in front for the bracket to clear the brake line better. That's kind of what it looks like in the video, but when I do that, the front bracket doesn't sit flush on the skid plate, and it's impossible to get the two allen head bolts on the bottom tight enough to suck those two together

just Fyi, the rear diff installs all suck regardless of manufacture.
I have a RCI and my buddy has a C4, and we learned to curse in different languages while installing ours.
I feel your pain mang.

Yep - just installed RCI on my 2016 with KDSS - clearance on front bolts are so tight you can barely get a wrench on it.....plus the tab with the logo sticks up and blocks the filler plug so you have to use a wrench there also. Overall pleased with the rest of my RCI armor and sliders but that diff skid was a royal PIA to install

Update.
Finally got it installed with help of the bottle jack.
Tips for anyone thinking of getting the Victory 4x4 rear diff skid for 5th Gen 4Runner.
If you're planning on installing by yourself, use some kind of jack, or ask a friend to help hold the skid up into place. Install the axle brackets first, and get the tilt of the skid correct first before tightening the bolts on 3rd member bracket.
I would also recommend getting new longer 1\2 bolts for axle brackets. The ones that came with the kit are too short, and don't even go past the nylon ring on the nuts. I would also recommend replacing the nylon lock nuts with regular nuts and use a lock washer the same time you're getting longer bolts. I had a huge fail when I got new nylon lock nuts and bolts in stainless steel, and the 3 of the 4 nylon lock nuts cold welded onto the bolts while I was trying to adjust. This probably wouldn't be a problem if you use regular hardened zinc coated hardware, but beware if you decide to go with stainless. I had to cut them all off, and started over with new bolts with regular nuts and lock washers.
Last advice is to flip the two 1/2inch bolts upside down on the front of the axle brackets. Since the bolts are now longer they end up coming into contact with the anti sway bar. Flipping the bolts gives lots of clearance, and using regular nuts + lock washers makes it easy to get the nut\bolt tight right side up, or upside down.
I hate nylon lock nuts

I just received my RCI rear diff skid from UPS. If you don't mind, are there any tips you might share to shorten my learning curve? Did you have to disconnect and move the swaybar?
Thanks in advance.

My vehicle has KDSS, so yours might be different. There is alot of youtube videos on non-kdss vehicles, not so much on kdss vehicles. Watch a lot of videos, especially where the bracket connects to the upper part of the diff, where the drive shaft connects.
Just make sure you have the proper wrench sizes at the ready, because a socket will not fit in the upper drivetrain area.
I dont remember removing anything.. Just remove one nut at a time, and then moved the bolt enough to where i can wiggle the diff skid into place where the sway bar and the diff skid meet, and use a jack or a buddy to help you hold the diff in place. just loosely connect everything, and i would tighten down from the front of the vehicle (drivetrain) then rearward. If you start tightening down bolts before putting everything together, nothing will fit.
Make sure you torque everything down or you will get squeaking.
good luck man. this is literally back breaking work if you doing this solo because its heavy, and you have no leverage on your back. I'm having nightmares thinking of this lol. Honestly, this is one of those things I would pay a shop to do.

Thank you. I appreciate it. I didn't expect this, so I'm glad I've got a realistic preview. It looks so easy.It will be solo. I was thinking about rigging up some kind of stand with a small bottle jack.

No issues when installing mine, took about 45 minutes going slow. Ratcheting wrenches help a lot.

Thanks for that. I have a platform motorcycle jack that should hold it in place pretty well, and I have ratcheting wrenches.

^^^THIS!!
There is a lot of "stuff" back there where the skid goes, so there is not a lot room for any manufacturer to make and "easier" install.
Patience and a couple of beers will help. AND assemble everything loosely and THEN begin tightening things down... my RSI took about an hour or so.
good luck
