Yours mounts in the front, so it allows your light to sit further back and in the rear. Also you don't have to deal with the hood latch support since you are using pods.
So, in your honest opinion, if I could get a custom mount made, would ONX6+ be worth it over the S8 as far as performance is concerned, and being that they will be behind the upper grill?

just buy it and figure it out afterwards. it usually comes down to trimming a little plastic, figuring out low profile mounts, etc. not that big of a deal. Alot can be done with an angle grinder and some angle iron..and fancy shims....washers

the bar is only 3.25 tall from the bottom of the mounting bracket to the top of the bar and 4.29 "deep"

is the hood latch support thingy in the way? i might order one of these instead of 2 more pods.

gonna bust out the tape measure and pull the plastic cover on the hood tonight.

if i could trim the plastic perfectly like @mynameistory did for his DD pods it'd be sweet

toyota logo gonna have to go....guess the trd pro fascia thingy gonna need to be bought lol

That would be awesome if you could get measurements to see if it will fit! Also, I already have the TRD Pro fascia thingy 👍👍.

If it fits, the next thing is deciding between 2 x 10” bars or 1 x 20” bar…

I really hope your measurements come back with positive results!!! 🤞🤞

I have an S8 in the upper grille.

ONX6+

S8

The S8 *barely* fits (you have to adjust the support bar above the light to make it work). I think with the extra inch on the ONX6+ it would be hard to make it work without major surgery.

Can you please take pics and show us why it "barely" fits when @mynameistory is about to get 3" Diode Dynamics SS3 driving lights in th upper grill?

Thank you!!

I can't remember what's in the middle in this area, I haven't dug around in there for a bit. It's really easy to pop off the plastic shroud that covers the gap to have a look. For sure it wouldn't make sense to do a single bar with the traditional sombrero grill, as it would block a lot of light.

yeah the hood latch support is in the way. You can dremel the bottom of it for more clearance, or remove it all together (i don't feel comfortable doing that).

My current chinesium light bar is probably 2 inches tall and maybe 1/2 inch brackets on each side and my chinesium light bar touches the support.

If i want to put the onx6 bar id have to do something with the hood latch support.

If you cut out the front grill, you can fit a double row light bar if you push it forward enough...lol.

So it all depends, if you start cutting or modifying you have lots of room.

Thank you!!
Sure.

1) as @mrblah and @mynameistory pointed out, the hood latch support bar is in the way. With the S8, you can adjust it enough that the hood latch is ok and the light bar can be aimed, but you have to loosen the hood latch bar a bunch, aim the light, then adjust the hood latch bar afterwards. Even after that, there is contact and rubbing - you can see that in the first picture below if you look hard enough.

Given the ONX6+ is an inch higher, you couldn't just dremel - you'd have to see if you could fasten up a different support bar that bent around the light bar.

2) Similar problem in the rear. There is about 1/2 an inch between the end of the S8 and the piece the hood latch support bolts into. The ONX6+ is over 1.5 inches longer. I don't know how you would handle that. Major cutting involved.

3) The front opening w/o cutting is about 2.5 inches. The ONX6+ is 2.75. So you have two challenges there. First, you'd need to cut out the grille the length of the bar or have obstruction, and second, you'd need to makes sure you could fashion mounts that could center the bar vertically in the space (the mounts that you can get from places like SDHQ are sized for the thinner S8.

@mynameistory 's worked because (1) by mounting lights to the side you don't have the constraint of the hood latch support in the way and (2) he cut space for the lights (and did a very nice job).

I'm sure it could be done - this forum proves that creative people can solve almost any problem - it's just a matter of effort and how you want the completed project to look.

ALL THAT SAID, if you went with 2 10" as opposed to 1 20", you could skip the hassle with the hood latch bar. You'd have to make some mounts and do a bit of drilling (the 20" bar uses some existing holes so there's no drilling) figure out if you are cutting the grille.

yea 2 tens would be the way to go. removing the center support would make the grille pretty flimsy lol.

Are you going to get these ONX6+ lights? I really hope you can make them fit so it will give me hope!

I am REALLY looking forward to working on my T4R when I get home from deployment!! Until then, I am living vicariously through these forums! lol

But these ONX6+ lights are what i have been dreaming about for the front grill! To me, they are the ultimate light bar for width, spread, throw, and MASSIVE output!!

Mine would have worked without cutting the grille, I just decided to get as much light output as possible by removing obstruction.

The reason they work is because I made the brackets extremely low profile, with a "layback" mounting style. You can see that the large optic portion practically rests on the bracket itself.

This comes with two distinct disadvantages though: One, the bracket style limits vertical adjustability. For me, that wasn't a problem as I wanted the lights to be level with the high-beams for maximum punch down the road.

The second is that it places the light's center of balance way off the grille support. This results in added torque on the support. The mounts themselves are very stiff, but hanging off like that causes the support to twist like a torsion bar when going over rough roads. This causes the lights to vibrate when I'm off highway. Not detrimental but it is definitely noticeable when the lights shake. Lights that are mounted at point A will shake much less than those mounted at point B, like mine.

I'm currently trying to decide whether I'll leave them as is, or design new mounts that will have more support.
