The reason they work is because I made the brackets extremely low profile, with a "layback" mounting style. You can see that the large optic portion practically rests on the bracket itself.

This comes with two distinct disadvantages though: One, the bracket style limits vertical adjustability. For me, that wasn't a problem as I wanted the lights to be level with the high-beams for maximum punch down the road.

The second is that it places the light's center of balance way off the grille support. This results in added torque on the support. The mounts themselves are very stiff, but hanging off like that causes the support to twist like a torsion bar when going over rough roads. This causes the lights to vibrate when I'm off highway. Not detrimental but it is definitely noticeable when the lights shake. Lights that are mounted at point A will shake much less than those mounted at point B, like mine.

I'm currently trying to decide whether I'll leave them as is, or design new mounts that will have more support.
the way mine are mounted outside of the bottom grille, they also vibrate a ton off road. I need to add a "kicker" (makes sense from a framing point lol) to keep the entire assembly rigid. problem is there isnt much to go to other than straight down. the actual mounts from Rago twist right near the base where they attach to the crash bar thing.

i'm considering mounting the lights in line with the Rago mounts and trimming the grille like you did, only ALOT more lolol. With black covers theyll blend in nicely

Someone should cut the whole toyota logo piece out and replace with round tube that is bent to follow the OEM curve for the grille structure and then use that as the light mounting point.

Yep I basically thought the same thing- need another support. Just need the time...

So, I was looking online and came across the dealer ads for the new Morimoto 4Banger light pods and they “seem” like they could be the perfect driving light for what I’m trying to do. They are a 3-LED pod and they are quite a bit smaller than the typical 3” x3” LED pods that are out there now.

The only issue I have now is that no one is actually publishing output data, EXCEPT to say that they are about 20% brighter than the DD SS3 Max fogs! But that claim is for the wide pattern. They don’t say a whole lot about their driving light output, so… 🤷*♂️

Morimoto used to re brand Heretic studio lights, I think theyre doing the same on these. Check out Heretic Studio, they might have specs....

They don’t have anything that looks even remotely the same as the new Morimoto light

they used the same name that heretic used to call their lights as. And Heretic told me Morimoto was using them to supply off road lights.

Morimoto 4Banger LED Pod Off-Road Lights - Here for the Crown! - YouTube

Morimoto 4Banger LED Pod Lights - Everything you need to know! - YouTube

from the review, it looks comparable to the other big boy brand names out there.

Looks like they use TIR technology too, some DD fanboy out there is probably having a mental meltdown right now.

If you get em, and you plan on putting them in the upper grill, i'd get the combo pattern and then post a review mang.

I am going to wait and see what people say about them first. I would also like to see some published specs or measurements before I decide.

However, they do look like they would fit perfectly in the upper grill - especially for the driving pattern lights! 👍👍

well they are morimoto's. They will be insanely popular across a bunch of different platforms. I don't think you will have to wait long for independent reviews and data to become available.

Hoping for both form and function… I would also “assume” they would match the white light of their XB v2 headlights as well…

Also, I feel like a pod light would draw less attention as a supplementary high beam than a light bar… so that would be a bonus for me as well.

yup, morimoto's usually have a OEM quality associated with them. Their products typically don't disappoint.

I'm running their headlights. I have no complaints.

We're doing some preliminary bashing over in the fog light thread.

The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review | Page 273 | Tacoma World

If they're a similar price to DD, no contest: they're not nearly as good for either optic quality or intensity.

If they're half the price? Might be worth it.
