2013 Trail -- Wanted the locker, Multi-Terrain and the black trim and accents with no chrome. The Trail wheels and hood scoop helped too.

I choose the limited as my 4th Gen was also a limited. I liked many of the limited features which is not available in the other trims at the time.
Redwood leather
Dual climate zone
Smart handles
Push start
3rd row seats
heated and cooled seats
Rear hatch outside controls
But I also liked the trd front bumper over the limited bumper. So I purchased a limited knowing I was going to do the trd tidbits conversion.

TRD ORP
Softex seats for my pup who likes to play in the water. Also wanted all the off-road options even though I’ll probably never do hardcore off-roading.

I wanted a cement gray. So it was buying a used pro or brand new trail. I don’t hard core off road, ( live in chicago suburbs) so getting a new one was a no brainer

I went from a 2017 TRD Off Road Premium to a 2022 SR5 Premium. I never used the crawl control etc that was in the overhead console in the ORP. I use the sunglasses holder in that spot in the SR5 Premium every day.

2020 SR5 non-premium. Less things to go wrong. I'll probably add a rear locker at some point, but at least that'll be the one and only additional thing to worry about.

TRD ORV
Wanted:
- 8" Infotainment
- Blackout badges
- Push button start.
- Dual zone climate control.
- TRD 17" wheels
- Locker and Atrack.
- KDSS.
- Roof rack
- Chose the suspension and tires I want to match my need without paying extra for nothing.
The things wanted but not available for my trim:
- Green army color
- JBL sound system.
- Front Pro skip plate.
I did not go Pro because no KDSS and Fox suspension/tires to be removed. The price difference was a deal breaker.

'21 ORP Nautical Blue had everything I wanted, especially heated seats, those were required. Only thing it has that I didn't want is the sunroof, but it was the only one available so I took it

Went from a 18 TRD PRO to a 21 ORP for keyless start and a moonroof. We chose the ORP over the PRO because we were going to swap out the suspension and wheel/tire set up for an ICON set up but still wanted to keep the TRD PRO interior.

Just replaced our 2013 Limited with a 2021 Limited. Prime reason is the full time four wheel drive. It does light off road to trailheads, hunting and fishing spots, but spends most of its time on road, year-round in the CO Rockies. Full time 4WD amounts to a no-brainer in our case.

2021 ORP with moonroof purchased for $38,500 new back in July 2020. My wife was dead set on a Pro. Dealers weren't budging from MSRP on Pros. I convinced her that we could make the ORP a Pro clone for less than the MSRP price of the 2021 ORP ($44,300) using OEM parts and Bilstein 5100 shocks (1" lift in the front like the Pro). That's what we did and saved around $8K overall vs buying a Pro. The differences between our ORP and the PRO being we don't the fancy Fox shock setup or auto climate control.

I hate to answer this, but...
We didn't really choose. Long story short; We had a family emergency and had to stay in LA for a couple of moths (not by choice). A few weeks before leaving LA, as a small family, we seriously needed something bigger than our sedan we arrived in. We went to the dealership and found a 2016 T4R Limited. Not having a lot of off-road experience, I thought, it's serving it's space-need purposes, but I can't wait to get it off road.
It's a nice SUV and it's highly capable off-road, even with the 20's (aired down). But it tosses us around a lot. So now, since there's no way we could afford a TRD, my head is spinning with figuring out how to mod the thing without spending a lot. I have good off-road skills, just don't know much about modding it.

I didn't want to look poor in an SR5 so I got a TRD Premium with sunroof and KDSS. It was also the 4Runner the dealer had on the lot when I went to test drive them and decided I liked it and bought it. Either one of those is why. Maybe both. I don't know.
