I'm Back

After selling my TRD Pro at a profit, I bought a 2022 Outback Wilderness. It was a very nice car and drove awesome. It was also the quirkiest car I've ever owned. The CVT was so annoying. I did a trip to Colorado in September shortly after buying it. It did amazingly well on and off road.

On a daily basis, the CVT was very quirky. The iPad sized screen was distracting and scratched easily. The ac controls are just a small space and frequently I missed the button I was trying to push. I hate the touchscreen. It was a love/hate relationship, but I was never truly happy and I missed the 4R. So on a whim I went to my dealership and there were 2 4R's on the lot. A silver Off Road and a nautical blue with beige Softex SR5 Premium. They were asking way more obviously for the silver one. Asking $54 for the SR5P. I said no way. I will buy it right now for $45K. They said no way. We haggled for about 5 times and we settled at $46K. They gave me $2K more than I paid for my Outback so I jumped on it. Nick is also proud to be back in a 4R.

I immediately had some buyers remorse with the color because it will show every scratch, but I didn't want to wait. In the sun is when the scratches will show, but it is what it is. I'm just glad to be back in a 4R.

Early plans for it:
**Tint tomorrow
**Ordered a Lockerdown Console safe
**Canvasback

Know how you feel

My first was a SR5 with 35" tires, almost dangerous on the highway but my first love. I also Bought a Subaru outback and had the same love/hate with it too, but when my daughter said Dad that's an old man car, I traded it in (profit also) for my 2021 Venture. Happy again...

Yeah I've heard the dad mobile jokes too.

I had a similar experience with my Crosstrek. Not as fancy as your Subaru and mine made NO power. Never really bonded with that car. Traded it for a TRD Pro and realized I should have got the Pro to start with. Awesome vehicle!

I'm Back

First mods. Moved my Blue Ridge Overland Gear seat back molle panels. Removed the pin stripping. Removed the side steps. Looks better to me without them and I don’t need them.

Welcome back. I was surprised when you sold your Pro and went with an Outback. As for the fine scratches that show on the dark colors, take it to a good detail place to see if they can rub it out. My black Pro was washed by the dealership and had so many fine swirls I had to take it to a Ceramic Pro dealer to have a paint correction and coating applied afterwards.
I was able to get back $500 from the dealership as I was able to prove that their cheap wash crews ruined the paint.
The newer paints and clear coats are not great and are soft. Over three years with the ceramic coating and it comes out better than new after each wash.
The dark blue is a nice color when clean, but I think dark blue metallics show dirt and scratches worse than black. IMO.
Going for a suspension mod soon? Good luck with your new T4R and welcome back to the forum.

I had a 2011 Forester up until this spring when I got my 2021 Nautical Blue ORP. The subie was very reliable for me for that decade, took 30 or 40 seconds to get to highway speed though lol. Occasionally when it needed servicing and i had a newer loaner i really hated the new climate controls, because it was all touch screen crap that you had to look at to use, amazingly useless and shockingly unsafe for a brand that prides itself on safety.

@DallasTRDPro

Welcome back.

After my 2014 was totaled, I couldn’t see myself getting into anything else.

You know more mods are coming in the near future so you can make it your own.
The first 3 are just the beginning.
You better figure what coilovers you want now so you can get them ordered! Haha

See ya around!

I saw my first Outback Wilderness actually yesterday. It looked pretty good, until the 70 year old guy that looked like he just got off the Appalachian trail got out. Such a dad car. My father in-law is ultimate dad too with the white New Balances and everything. Guess what he drives an Outback.

We test drove an Ascent when we were shopping for the family hauler for my wife. Loved the car, but man that CVT is tough to like (any CVT really) and all those flashing safety lights, sensors and sounds. I test drove one in the day and loved it. We went back and drove another at night and it was so annoying. I'm an analog person and just like hitting a button instead of a touch screen. Huge reason I love the 4Runner.

No plans for suspensions mods at this time. I have always loved the look of the Nautical Blue and I actually really like the beige softex. Won't be as easy to keep clean, but the softex is really durable so it should be fine. Actually won't show as much drool as the black interior. I decided to lease this 4R mainly because I can right it off for my business and I haven't kept a vehicle for more than 18 months in my life. I was joking with the finance guy that I have never registered a car on my own. So I figured a some point the 6th Gen would interest me if they are even close to affordable. I'm also hoping that these will be sought after once the 6th Gen comes out and hold their value. I'm hoping that leasing it will keep the mod bug at bay. Maybe a small spacer lift just to level it out. If I end up hating this color I know I will just be trading for white. I just wanted to be in a 4R again because I knew I had some more long travel trips planned which the Subaru would be infinitely better for, but it just wasn't me and I knew I wasn't going to be happy long term. So I figured since I was getting more than I paid for it that I would strike while the iron was hot.

I knew it was a dad car and I definitely didn't fit the socialist mold of the Outback. This '22 has just the right amount of tech to it and its easy to use. The Outback had so many quirky tech issues daily. Squeaked when it shifted into reverse or into drive unless the car was completely warmed up. It was matter of time before I got rid of it.
