I’ll do it. And see if they pull it.

I ordered a metal oil filter housing and some oil filters off Amazon before I saw the Car Care Nut video. Turns out they were all knockoffs. Now I only buy parts through dealerships.

Thanks!

This has been a super informative thread. I had no idea how rampant this counterfeiting thing is!

Toyota Counterfeit parts EXPOSED! - YouTube shows how to check for a counterfeit filter. Fast forward to the following times:

15:25-15:50 Counterfeit hologram is dull and not reflective. Iridescent details are missing when the box is moved under direct lighting.

15:55-16:00 Counterfeit filter has "Made in Japan" printed on the box. Genuine filters are made in Thailand.

20:00-20:25 Counterfeit filter is easily squeezed in the hand, which indicates filter material is thinner and the end seals are soft and flexible.

Other tests for a counterfeit require side-by-side comparison with a genuine oil filter and box.

So the filters check all the boxes that he said to look for. i went to parts.toyota.com to cross reference part numbers and they match.

my biggest thing is the filter is nice and stiff, nothing spongy like in his video.

Apparently, you got a great deal on Amazon. Genuine Toyota parts below dealer cost with free shipping from BAM Wholesale (BAMW). I attempted to investigate why ...

BAMW has a Toyota Parts Catalog with wholesale prices that are competitive with Camelback Toyota (which is close to me). I searched for the nearest Toyota dealer and found Brunswick Toyota Auto Mart (BTAM) 1.2 miles away. Photos of BTAM on Google shows a small building that has no room for storing parts. I think BAMW delivers genuine Toyota parts to the BTAM service center and also sells parts on Amazon.

So, why did BAMW sell 10 genuine oil filters for 90 cents each with free shipping? I don't know. Perhaps somebody made an error in the listing.

Mine are due in today. Also I noticed the price increased from 9$ to 48$.

I think they're legit.

Sounds like another case of Comingled Inventory to me...

Amazon inventory management causes authentic vendors to sell fakes

Mine came in tonight. Look legit to me. Holograms, made in Taiwan, black Toyota script inside the filter etc.

Need to get one from my dealer to compare but I expect I'll keep them they look correct to me.

These weren’t fulfilled by Amazon according to the ad.
I see a few reviews where people only got a single filter, so I’m chalking this one up to a listing error.

Just got the 2 case order of yzza5 filters & compared to an oil filter from dealer exact same as the dealer(Holograms, filter, seals, box and filter drain) every thing identical. Great deal must have been a mistake on amazon that was why the price went up so quick. I wish that i bought more I thought i would have to toss them but now I’m glad that i bought them.

20 YZZA5 filters for $18
