Exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I looked up most of the pins recommended in this thread and I see so many reviews saying they are crap. I'm starting think there is not a good one anywhere.

I’m only giving feedback because the DuraSafe I listed lasted and worked well. I wouldn’t have posted otherwise.

YMMV

Thanks for your suggestion. I actually did not see any real reviews for that one. Just someone saying it did not fit their Tacoma. Maybe that's the one I should try. It's really not that important that I have to replace some cheap pin every couple of years. I just don't want to be stuck somewhere needing to get it off and the key won't work.

With the offerings, I would consider using a stainless steel bolt and two nuts followed by cranking the sucker on good and tight.

Which are now galled into being unremovable without destruction, just like most locking pins.

We'll all be lining up to buy the $800 locking hitch pin that comes in a fancy box and unlocks based on facial recognition, secured an an electromagnetic locking mechanism, which eventually only locks for short periods of time after a software update.

Weird there isn't a bombproof solution for this as lock pin becomes another weak link if you're using a shackle for a recovery point. I have a first gen Factor 55 shackle mount but I have avoided using it for recovery for this reason. I'm leaning towards an oversized ultra-grade bolt and nut. On the other hand, maybe the shear strength of good quality locking pin is enough. bottom line - Don't skimp!

If you build a ten foot wall to protect yourself from thieves, they just buy an eleven foot ladder.

Fortunately, I live in a very rural area and don’t need a locking pin. But I do have one. Both pins are only in place for the duration of my towing needs, which is generally only hours. Both are stowed in a tote inside my 4Runner.

My locking pin is simply a cheap Harbor Freight pin, which I’ve had several years. I don’t think it’s ever seen a raindrop or snowflake, so I cannot comment on its durability. Being a Harbor Freight item, I doubt it has any durability. But it’s worked for me.

Don't forget that it only works with stingers from the same manufacturer so you can throw all your existing 2" hitch parts away.
