Crashed 5th gen. Want to put 3rd row seats into next 5th gen
So, sadly, got caught in a multiple car wreck this weekend in my 2013 SR5. Still pending insurance quote, but I get the feeling its going to be totalled. Crash wasnt bad enough to set off the airbags, but the radiator, front bumper and half the lights, rear bumper, and rear hatch all have damage. Additionally, the crumple zones worked to the point I couldnt open my drivers side door, so Im not sure if thats reparable or not.
But the car did fantastically protecting me and the family. To the point I am already pricing another 5th gen to replace it. Sadly, here in CO, finding another SR5 or Limited with 3rd row seats is like finding a unicorn. Im seeing 3 within 100 miles, and they are not likely to still be on the market if/when insurance makes a decision on my car.
So Im wondering if its possible to remove the 3rd row from my current SR5, and put it into a new one (SR5 or limited, still not sure, I know both can come with 3rd row options). Or better yet, could I put the third row into a TRD? Im assuming if they total the car, I can negotiate to take the seat and mounts with me.
Has anyone done this or heard of it happening? And if so, do you have a write up?

Don't know the answer to your question, but you should be aware that the middle row seats are different for the 3 row models, so you will need to move both rows, if that is possible.

The 3 row 4Runners have extra air bags in the rear for safety also.
Here is an old post on it and I'm sure there are more.... Adding 3rd Row to 5th gen

It's been done, I remember the guy having to drill and tap bolt holes into the frame and such. Honestly you're better off just buying a new T4R with the third row option if you can even find one right now...

I have a 2010 LE that I've removed the 3rd row (going to keep for later), and the two main things I can think of are the holes in the floor for the mounting (14mm bolts) of the seats and seat belts, and the plastic paneling next to the seats as they are much higher than 2 rows' and the D pillars for the seatbelt slots.
I know the 2 row models' second row is different, but not sure if it's so much so that you can't install the 3rd row at all or if it just cuts down on leg room.

It can be done, my friend added a third row to his TRD pro. Like other said it is non-trivial, I did not know about the airbags difference.
If you are ok with a SR5 I would just buy it with a third row.

I'd wait for the right Runner or go with something larger with a usable 3rd row.

I wonder what they'll pay out to you with the current market value for new and used cars right now. Make sure you're compensated properly since replacing this vehicle is going to cost you a lot more due to market shortages.
