No TPMS light?

So I switched to winter tires/rims 2 weeks ago, with no sensors and expecting to get the warning light on the dash. It still has not come on? I'm not complaining too much about it, since it is annoying to look at, but now I'm wondering if the system works at all? Is this normal?
Coming from a Lexus RX350, the light would come on right away minutes of driving.

are the tires with sensors in your garage?
have you gotten up to highway speeds and how many miles have you driven since the install?
was the TPMS disabled by someone or are you using one of those modules that let you change certain settings on your vehicle?
are you 100% sure you don't have TPMS in your winters?

sometimes it can take a while for the light to come on. but it will come on if your TPMS module is working properly, you don't have TPMS in your winters and your TPMS isn't reading your summers that are stored close by

The summer tires are stored in garage, but we have driven it nearly 300kms since the switch, drove on every type of road since then. For sure there are no sensors as they are steel rims and I did not want to pay extra for them. When I had the summers on I could read the actual psi on the display but now I cannot, which makes sense since no sensors.

when you first start up the vehicle do you see the TPMS light come on when all the other dash lights light up and then go out? or does it not illuminate at all? perhaps the TPMS was disabled/fooled by a previous owner or the shop (doubt it if it was taken to Toyota). TPMS can be finicky though

usually when you install tires without sensors the TPMS light will blink for 60-90 seconds upon startup and then remain solid. it will also do this when you don't program sensors on a tire swap. now I'm curious to know what's going on here

Sorry for late reply, yes upon start up it comes on, then disappears with everything else seconds later, never to be seen again. I doubt the dealership would disable it, it's brand new, had it for 3 months no or so, and with the factory rims I was able to read the PSI for each tire, so for sure was not disabled. Very puzzling...

One of my sensors' battery went dead. The light drove me crazy until I bypassed the system with an on/off toggle switch. It's is odd your tpms system isn't going nuts. I air down for trail a lot so the switch is awesome for me.

Where did you install this switch? It may come in handy one day, would be good to know!

I do not know about the newer models but my 2014 when I ran 2 sets of tires, one without tpms I could drive around 15-20 minutes or so before the light would come on. If the light did come on it would reset when I went into the garage where the other tires were. A small piece of electrical tape over the light on the dash solved the problem for me.

You might be onto something here, ever since, the wife has been driving it to work and back which is about 20mins drive each way, so perhaps by the time its about to go off, it comes back in the garage where the summer rims are stored and gets "woken" up again. Will have to test this out on a further drive during the weekend to test out this theory though.

that was my suspicion as well. but OP says no tire pressure is displayed in the menus. wouldn't the tire pressure show up when he's in the driveway and it's connected to the summer tires in the garage? I don't have TPMS PSI display so I can't test this out

he's also driven 300km since the install and I'm assuming some of that is highway mileage and not short city trips. it should have flashed for about 90 seconds on the highway after 20-30 minutes and then went solid

it's probably programmed not to turn on the warning light if all of the sensors can't be detected like if you use a winter tire for the season. nice for toyota to do that.

Got a single pole toggle installed in one of the blanks lower left of steering wheel which is where those wires are conveniently. Napa happened to have the right size for 5$

If my wheels with the TPMS are within range when I start the car - I won't see the tire warning light up on most local driving trips. My guess is that the system identifies a pressure and then if it loses contact it doesn't light up the warning for a set period of time - it assumes a malfunction in the connection and not a flat tire as a low pressure tire would still have a signal saying zero, not the lack of signal.

I think on mine it's maybe 30 minutes before I get the dash light warning once I'm away from the garage.

When you start up the 4runner the TPMS PSI displays blank PSIs. It waits for a number of rotations while driving to measure current PSI and then displays real-time PSI until you turn the 4runner off.

I'm pretty sure its been driven longer than 30mins away from the garage, but this upcoming weekend we're planning a longer trip so if it doesn't come on after that, must be disabled in programming, as stated above, Toyota might of done that since it cannot read all 4 sensors so assumes its a winter set.
