4Runner entune navigation retrofit 2016 to 2012

hello everyone. I have been trying to upgrade my 2012 4Runner sr5 non jbl entune navigation to a newer one I don’t want to go aftermarket so I purchased a 2016 unit and so far I’ve been able to get almost everything working except the backup camera if someone has any information on that I’ll really appreciate it since I’m upgrading from a 2012 entune navigation to a 2016 entune navigation some of the connections are different on the newer unit I need to know which wires I have to tap into to get the backup camera going there’s an adapter for an aftermarket camera but I’ll like to keep the factory camera I’m also having an issue with the music apps like pandora I heart radio etc not showing on the screen I’m not sure why since those apps are part of the entune system maybe is because this radio belonged to another truck. If someone knows how to fix this issue please let me know I’ll really appreciate it by the way my camera shows on the head unit not the mirror. I know someone here did it to a 2011 4Runner but there’s no picture or information on the wires. hopefully I’ll get some help in finding the camera wires or if one of the factory camera retaining harness on the market would work on my situation like the Metra one.
Thanks for the help

have you tried a 2016-2019 oem BU camera? the older BU camera's probably have different resistance/capacitance/voltage requirements.

2010 - 2015 camera : 86790-35050
2016 - 2019 camera : 86790-35061

Hello everyone it’s been a while since I started this and finally I got it figured out it is hard when you’re trying to get something working and just don’t have the knowledge to get it done anyway I broke the screen on my 2012 4runner entune navigation I purchased a 2016 oem unit almost everything worked fine except for the xm radio and back up camera the harness plugs are different I purchased the axxess toy-cam1 and axxess toy-cam3 adapters they are supposed to be used to keep the oem backup camera on an aftermarket radio or add an aftermarket one to the oem screen and combining this 2 adapters I used the included RCA plugs to make the camera connection all that’s left is to connect the 2 yellow wires together to accessory power and the 2 black ones to ground it’s that simple sorry I didn’t take pictures I hope this will benefit someone looking to do the oem navigation upgrade this 2 adapters cost about $15 each.

So the only differences were that the XM Radio and Backup Camera needed additional adapters to plug into the new unit? Everything else plugged right in and works properly, including steering wheel controls?

Yes everything works all plug and play except for the camera and Xm radio for the xm module the antenna connector is different and is hard to find I sent for one the might work I haven’t received it yet I’ll update if it works I don’t really care about XM but want to get the unit 100 percent working one thing I haven’t been able to get working is the Entune app suite IHeartRadio slacker radio etc. when I installed the radio the apps were there then an update message came up I took the update and the apps were gone I have tried everything possible even tried a different vin number so if someone have a fix for the app suite I’ll appreciate it.

Toyota took out support for all the apps except Slacker. Entune app is useless. Wouldn't even bother with it tbh.

Just a quick update the backup camera is working as it was on the old 2012 radio I got the xm radio antenna adapter installed it but the xm radio app is still missing on the screen along with the iHeartRadio slacker and the other useless apps I would like to get at least the xm radio working as of now I have no clue why the icon is missing from the screen it should be there subscription or not I think if there was a more recent Entune update to flash the head unit it’ll probably work but there’s nothing new from Toyota they haven’t release an update in a long time I try the available update a few times but nothing happens the radio already has it there should be an option to run it again if you wish to in case something goes wrong.

I realize this post is a bit old... So I'm attempting to use the Beat-Sonic TAV-CB2 S-Connect Interface in my 2012 TE with non-JBL entune nav head unit in order to get Android Auto and Apple Carplay to work on the stock head unit. However, the Beat-Sonic unit is meant for factory nav head units for model years 2014-18. The included wiring harness for the Beat-Sonic unit will work fine, except that the backup camera connection is different. This is a similar problem that you ran into while installing a newer factory entune nav head unit in a 2012 model.

@pedrorl : This is not a criticism as I greatly appreciate your post, and have found it very helpful. But I cleaned up this set of sentences to make it understandable:
"I used the included RCA plugs to make the camera connection. All that’s left is to connect the 2 yellow wires together to accessory power, and the 2 black ones to ground. It’s that simple". - Can you please elaborate on this? I don't quite understand what you are saying about the 2 yellow wires together to accessory power and the 2 black ones to ground.

Are you using the composite yellow video connector for your backup camera signal? How did you handle supplying the 6v of power to the backup camera?

By the way, I've found these two adapters for the backup camera from crutchfield which are similar to the ones you posted (which there are probably ones that cheaper out there):
- 2012 backup camera cable: PAC CAM-TY11 Backup Camera Cable Retain your factory backup camera or add an aftermarket camera to select 2012-15 Toyota, Subaru, and Scion vehicles at Crutchfield
- 2014+ backup camera cable: PAC CAM-TY12 Backup Camera Cable Retain your factory backup camera or add an aftermarket camera to select 2014-16 Toyota and Scion vehicles at Crutchfield
